Oakland Mayor Jean Quan should step aside and let someone who knows how to deal with mobs take over.
Meet businessman Phil Tagami (via San Fran Chron):
Oakland developer Phil Tagami is used to working behind the scenes to broker some of the biggest deals in town. Late Wednesday, he was using different persuasive skills – holding a loaded shotgun to scare away rioters trying to get into a downtown building.
“We had people who attempted to break into our building,” the landmark Rotunda Building on Frank Ogawa Plaza outside City Hall, Tagami said Thursday. He grabbed a shotgun that he usually keeps at home, went down to the ground floor and “discouraged them,” he said.
“I was standing there and they saw me there, and I lifted it – I didn’t point it – I just held it in my hands,” Tagami said. “And I just racked it, and they ran.”
While the enablers continue to pander to the professional freeloaders, Tagami rejects the prog impulse to downplay the role of saboteurs in the Occupiers’ movement.
Crews were boarding up broken windows at the Tully’s Coffee shop just steps from Occupy Oakland’s camp at Frank Ogawa Plaza outside City Hall. Graffiti was sprayed on the Rite Aid and Walgreens drugstores across from each other at 14th and Broadway. The city estimated it would cost up to $25,000 to replace broken windows at city buildings.
City Administrator Deanna Santana apologized to business owners for the “chaotic events” that enveloped the city. Mayor Jean Quan called the rioters “a small and isolated group.”
“It shouldn’t mar the overall impact of the demonstration and the fact that people in the 99 percent movement demonstrated peacefully and, for the most part, were productive and very peaceful,” Quan said.
Tagami disagreed, calling the Occupy Oakland encampment “basically concealment and cover for anarchists who are doing this to our city.”
“We’re very concerned that a group of people can be allowed to do this type of destruction to our town and to our image without any repercussions,” Tagami said. “They need to be held accountable.” He rejected assertions that the anarchists were a small minority, saying, “No, you can’t have it both ways.”

The answer is simple – elect Ron Paul in 2012.
If you vote for Mitt, Newt, Herman, Rick etc., you will get an increase in government and an increase in special interests trying to access the power and money that government holds. So, more of the same, just with a bit different flavour.
OWS is an act of special interests who are trying to get their hands on resources ‘owned’ by the government. If you disallow government the right to own those resources, you will prevent OWS-type groups from being able to organize and target.
It’s like having one person walk down the street with $10,000 in their pocket and informing every street criminal of the occurence- the likely victim represents a prime target for a robbery. Instead, if you had 10,000 people, each with only $1 in their pocket, and then informed every street thug of the situation, a potential robbery would be unlikely, since their would be no big score available.
Vote for a leader who wants to signifigantly reduce government and this stuff will go away because it will not have a source of energy to feed it.
Small government is the only answer. Ron Paul wants small government. Ron Paul is your best bet. The others are for the status quo.
But I know, Ron won’t defend Taiwan or strike Iran, so I guess America will end up being financially owned by China so as to avoid turning their back on Israel and other friends – yeah!! That makes sense!!
Productive? I would love someone to ask Quan what her definition of productive is.

When the government refuses to do it’s job, protect and serve, it’s time for the people to protect themselves and their property. For the (_*_) government lackey who brand this vigilantism, ESAD. You gave up the job of protecting our borders, protecting our cities, protecting our lives, so we’ll do it, and if the department of injustice wishes to charge us with crimes, I’ll take my chances with a jury of my piers.
I had the displeasure of listening to Bill O’Reilly pander to the left last night by saying the occutards have some good points, but he failed to say what they are. He also said that their movement is being hijacked by criminals, rather than the movement being run by criminals.
I know his game, but he needs to be more honest on this issue. You don’t give this idiocy legs.

The business owners of Oakland need to file a lawsuit against the OWS movement. They are collecting donations, thus could be considered a business. This exposes them to the liability of legal responsibility.
I would file suit against the NYC-version as well for starting this mess. Last I heard, they were fighting over control of $500K. Let them fight the court over it. Hopefully, a judge with a pair will freeze the assets and deem that the fund to make reparations.
I still say that dropping a few would help as well. BLADUYAH! Sup comrade?

I agree with your first sentence, but without any hint of sarcasm. I will not be the slightest bit surprised if the local DA brings charges for carrying a weapon in public. Nevermind that it wasn’t loaded. Nevermind that it was on private property. Nevermind that Mr. Tagami didn’t overtly threaten anyone by pointing the gun. He merely suggested violence by brandishing his firearm, and racking it just added to his implied threat. That’s how liberals think and view the law: this type of behavior is DANGEROUS!

If they find an e-mail saying you WOULD shoot a person it will be grounds to charge you with premeditation.

Oakland is the scene of police layoffs in recent years due to budget constraints and union work rules. The Chief wanted to replace sworn officer administrative staff with civilians to lower payroll costs and free something like 300 officers for street duty. The union shut him down as did the mayor.
But the pols in Oakland will find the money to pay to support and pick up after the OWS crowds. Great set of priorities.
Interesting, saying you would defend yourself is “premeditation”. I wouldn’t put it past liberal DA’s to argue this. It is laughable but again I wouldn’t put it past them.
Here’s the thing: Why were these anarchists given free permits that don’t seem to indicate restrictions, etc. Our Tea Party had a one-day permit that required us to vacate the State Capitol property by 5 PM.
If you are not armed by now, you better get armed, especially you ladies (not meaning to sound sexist…just common sense. Lots of guys shoot. Women, not so much).

I am troubled by what is happening there. A second veteran was injured there.
It is time for the protesters to police themselves. It is our right to seek redress and speak our minds (read the Constitution). And, we must do it in a civil manner.
I suggest that veterans who are participating in this ‘event’ point out the anarchists who are taking this to an unacceptable level. Heck, all of those who are participating and claim to be peaceful should direct the police to those who are being non-peaceful in thier assembly.
And yes, were you to threaten me, or my property, the response would be a ‘second ammendment remedy.’
