Democrat Candidate Ties GOP Opponent to Obama

By Doug Powers  •  December 1, 2011 09:13 PM

This week the Chairman of the RNC offered a $100 reward for anyone who could get a picture of President Obama together with Bob Casey, the Democrat Senator from Pennsylvania, where Obama was fundraising. The money went unclaimed of course.

Republicans tying their Democrat opponents to Obama might be an increasingly popular strategy, but it can also work the other way around:

Here’s a telling sign of how much President Obama’s fortunes have changed since 2008 — a leading Democratic Congressional recruit is now attacking a Republican congressman for supporting the president.

Former Ohio Democratic congressman Charlie Wilson, who was attacked relentlessly for being too close with President Obama in last year’s losing campaign, kicked off his comeback bid today by accusing his Republican rival of the same sin.

Wilson, who represented a rural, blue-collar district along the Ohio River, is seeking a rematch against freshman Rep. Bill Johnson, R-Ohio. In his successful 2010 campaign, Johnson effectively characterized Wilson as a lackey of national Democrats, blasting him for casting a critical vote for Obama’s health care law and the stimulus.

So it’s striking that Wilson is now trying to use that same tactic against Johnson, criticizing the congressman for supporting free trade agreements backed by President Obama.

“I am disappointed that Congressman Johnson supported President Obama’s free trade agenda this year. These agreements will ship even more of our jobs overseas,” Wilson told WTRF-TV.

If this kind of bipartisan Hope & Change avoidance behavior keeps up, next year Obama will be the Maytag repairman of presidents. The upside to that being lots more time for golf.

The conventional wisdom on Barack Obama is that he is one cool character, “no drama Obama,” as he liked to say during the 2008 campaign. But this demeanor is a pose, a self-constructed facade, designed to conceal the deeper issues that trouble him.

Yesterday, in three fundraising speeches, Obama gave some indication that the pressure is showing. Andrew Malcolm of IBD describes it as “A strangely desperate new Obama campaign speech: Urgent, dramatic, about him”
…at all three stops Obama, who has sunk in job approval polls from 69% to the low 40s, injected a far stronger note of urgency about next year’s reelection bid than he has since announcing last spring.

“Every single thing that we care about is at stake in the next election,” he told one donor group. “The very core of what this country stands for is on the line.”

So, the future of the entire country is now inextricably tied to Obama’s own reelection?

Such hyperbolic, hubristic claims are usually reserved for a campaign’s closing hours to prompt a last-minute spurt of political adrenalin among supporters. Not 341 days out. Not 10 months before even early voting opens. This couldn’t possibly be desperation! Already?

Here are several other points made by Obama to a possibly puzzled crowd assembled at the Gotham Bar and Grille:

“I’ve got to win in 2012.”

“In order to finish the job, I’m going to have to have a second term.”

“I need a couple more years to finish the job.”

“I’m going to need another term to finish the job.

And in case anyone had missed the point, the ex-partial-term senator said, “I’m going to need a few more years to finish the job.

    This was in one speech.

    He gave three of them.

So Barry Cool is feeling the heat, apparently.

“Although Pennsylvania has one million more registered Democrats than Republicans, the Republicans swept the state in the 2010
elections. They now hold the governor’s office, both houses of the legislature and two-thirds of the Congressional seats, and they control 54 of
the 67 counties. This gives them an infrastructure they lacked in 2008.”

“I’m feeling pretty good about where we sit,” Robert Gleason, chairman of the state Republican Party, said in an interview.

An Obama second term would only mean – at best – Republican legislation signed into law by a grinning jackass Obama.

Well, isn’t he right, though? Of course “the very core of what this country stands for” and “everything we care about” is something very different in our opinion, but I see this very same claim made day after day by conservatives on sites like this one and others. And I also see the claim that the future of the entire country is inextricably linked, not to Obama’s reelection, but to his defeat. Sure, the man IS the biggest narcissist I’ve ever seen, but how can we call him out for saying the same things we say every day? Such claims form the core of the argument made by the people who say they will vote for anyone on the R ticket, no matter how loathesome, just to defeat Obama.

(I haven’t made up my mind on how I feel about that, by the way…usually I vote 3rd party when the R stinks, but I do also firmly believe another Obama term means nothing short of the end of this country. What’s a gal to do when the only likely R nominees suck??)

6th Amendment: “In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the State and district wherein the crime shall have been committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the Assistance of Counsel for his defence.”

No police force necessary – Obama has the Army (in violation of the Constitution): The 1st Brigade Combat Team, Third Infantry in 2010 – “According to the Army Times,

‘They may be called upon to help with civil unrest and crowd control…’”

And a new underground bunker is being dug at the White House.

I’m not tracking you AG. The bill specifically says, “a member of, or part of, al-Qaida or an associated force” can be held in military custody “without trial until the end of the hostilities authorized by the Authorization for Use of Military Force.”

While I’m picking up your red flag re due process, we also have the whole Holder insanity to try enemy combatants in civil courts.

We all remember good ol’ Johnny “Jihad” Walker and Adam Gadahn (AKA Ezzam Al-Amerikee) – American citizens who took up arms against the US. Correct me if I’m wrong, but if they are tried in civil courts, all information relating to their cases becomes public record – outing intelligence operations critical to defeating al Qaida – one reason why civil trials for these vermin is a really stupid idea.

Where is the connection between this and the military being used to assist with “civil unrest and crowd control” on US soil? Am I missing something?

We must keep voting in TEA Party candidates down the ticket. Congress, state houses, even school boards. Our children’s President will be in one of those elections in 2012. If we do our job well in 2012 hopefully then they won’t have to hold their nose and vote 20 years from now.

This mess was 100 years in the making, it will take a long time to fix.

Key player in 9/11, mentor to SoA Colonel Hassan (Fort Hood), Undie Bomber, etc, etc, etc. I believe the two Hellfire missles delivered to his house in Yemen are the extent of his Constitutional rights. If possible, his family should be charged for the expense of the missles. Those things ain’t cheap! And if they ever get Gadahn, he should have the right to a water board with electrodes hooked up to his nads. Sorry.
