Remembering Pearl Harbor: 70 years
Never forget:
A newsreel of the Day of Infamy:
Five memorials will be held today for “servicemen who lived through the assault and want their remains placed in Pearl Harbor out of pride and affinity for those they left behind.”
Here’s the official White House statement on this solemn occasion.
An old salt remembers:
Ninety-one-year-old Constantine Socrates Savalas stepped on the stage at Los Angeles Valley College’s music recital hall and surveyed the younger faces before him.
“I stand before you as a witness to the destruction of ships and destroyers at Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941,” said Savalas, briefly describing the surprise attack by the Japanese that killed 2,459 Americans and drew this country into World War II.
He paused, then sang in a strong baritone:
“There’s a grief that can’t be spoken.
There’s a pain goes on and on.
Empty chairs at empty tables.
Now my friends are dead and gone.”
His rendition of the tune from the musical “Les Miserables” is something of a tradition at the campus’ December music performance workshop concerts.
Savalas, brother of the late actor Telly Savalas, loves to sing and has attended the workshops for 18 years. He always chooses “Empty Chairs at Empty Tables” at the annual performance – his personal tribute to the people who died 70 years ago Wednesday in the event that devastated the U.S. Navy’s Pacific Fleet.
God bless our veterans and their families.

May they always rest in peace -
some of us remember this differently, i guess? http://wusa9.com/news/article/178399/158/Presidents-Kids-School-Japanese-Menu-For-Pearl-Harbor-Day
God rest the souls of the men and women we lost that terrible day, and those who survived who have since left us.
If Obamakids are eating Oriental at school today (or would be if they weren’t in Hawaii with their vacationing parents), I’ll bet their Dad will celebrate Pearl Harbor Day the old fashioned way, by challenging some Japanese businessmen on the links.
What followed Pearl Harbour Day changed my mother in law’s life forever, she was a little girl in China then. My wife blogged about the significance of Pearl Harbour Day to her chinese mother. http://munchadoaboutnothing.blogspot.com/2011/12/significance-of-pearl-harbour-to-my.html
Thank you for using the term ‘oriental’, which means to the East, as in South East Asia.
The continent of Asia is huge and includes Russia, Saudi Arabia, India, Japan etc. To use ‘Asian’ makes no sense. It’s like saying North American, and forgetting that North America includes Mexico, only thinking that it refers to the Canada and America.
I visted the Arizona back in 1971. Unforgettable. There was a good bit of tension when some Vets saw Japanese tourists there. Nothing was said but you could see it clearly.
In my wallet I carry a photo of Ford Island (I think) showing planes burning and sailors kneeling in the foreground.
Every self-absorbed teenager, OWS parasite (and many of their parents) should go stand on the Arizona memorial. Perhaps they would then begin to understand that freedom is NEVER free, (nor should it be lest you take it for granted) despite what you are told by the democrat socialist party and their LSM propaganda arm…
I have stood there twice. It is very humbling to know that you are standing over the remains of 1100 servicemen whose families and friends had to carry on without them for the last 70 years.
Rest in peace and God bless you. Real Americans will NEVER forget…
Actually I read they are eating Japanese. Really.
Hangfire–will you be taking part in any of the ceremonies there today? My cousin is a retired Colonel, USMC & works & lives there in Kailua.
I received this email from my Grandfateher a few months after that 9/11 attacks and I always look at it on Dec 7th as well as on Sept 11th. He was a crewmember on a B-52 during WWII.
He told me that he wrote that shortly after he prayed on whether or not he should enlist in the Air Force. It seems to me that he got his answer.
Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord
And let Perpetual Light shine upon them
May their souls and all the souls of the faithfully departed, through the Mercy of God, rest in Peace. Amen
I drove past the USS Arizona and USS Missouri just a few minutes ago.
Awe-inspiring, every morning. I hope to get off a little early today and see the USS Oklahoma ceremony.
This is the photo I carry.
Here are photos of what it took to salvage and resurface the sunken ships. The USS Oklahoma alone was an amazing feat:

And just to let Obama know, the Japanese aren’t proud of their Pearl Harbour attack. It is not something that they wish to be reminded of, so such a gesture would be considered unwelcome in their minds.
May God put His arms around those who died on the day our nation was attacd. May God be with the precious few we have left the day our nation was attacked. God bless our wonderful military and our Republic.
L
I’d advise those dudes to get over it.
Here’s a question to you conservative Christians: how do you support someone like Newt after he’s lied to all of his wives?
And – don’t you Christians see Obama as the better family man?
#17, gosh I messed that up, s/b attacked not attacd

Did FDR Provoke Pearl Harbor?
NOVA Killer Subs in Pearl Harbor
More than half of those killed at Pearl Harbor were on the Arizona. Many are still entombed in the hull. It wasn’t just an aerial attack. This is an interesting NOVA investigation of the midget subs the Japanese employed.
Dive beneath the surface to discover an untold story of WWII.

A good day to fly the flag and say a prayer for all those who serve and protect us.
get thee hence, Satan
You need to STFU! That is totally uncalled for and you damn well know it. I would love to see you go up to one of these vets and tell them that to their face. You would be lucky to get out of there alive you POS!
@Ilovemycountry
You’re assuming that conservatives automatically support Gingrich. I don’t and think what he did to his ex-wife (delivering a marital settlement agreement to her while she was undergoing treatment for cancer) was disgracefull.
That Obama is a good family man is one of the few things about him that I respect. Doesn’t mean I’m willing to vote for him.
Finally, this thread is about remembering the Pearl Harbor attack. But then ILOVEMYCOUNTRY, you seem to think its appropriate to write about conservatives and Christians here, rather than showing some respect for what this day means. That says something about your lack of character.
And once again, it’s instructive to compare and contrast Bing’s homepage today with Google’s.

Would someone kick the Sack o Excrement off this site please?
Indeed, it is the first thing I noted this morning (but compared Bing w/Yahoo…I never use google).
God bless our veterans.

If that last comment doesn’t get the troll banned, I don’t know what will.
Have you no decency?
Agree with you and all the rest that responded to that poster’s arguably inhuman and evil remark.
You beat me to it.
I believe that this is one of those times where a line has been drawn between good and bad.
That poster’s comment crossed that line…period.
It cannot be excused/justified/defended as being merely a political opinion.
If we stand for the difference between good and bad, then that poster should – must – be banned now.
NO, IT doesn’t and it is really getting old bringing our faith into IT’s comments!
L
As someone with a relative still aboard the U.S.S. Arizona, I only have pity for ILMC – it must be painful to have a soul so small.
As for Japanese tourists, I welcome them. I don’t think they learn much about it in school, and the ones I’ve seen there are respectful.
So, seeing your best friends incinerated alive or blown to pieces before you eyes is just something they need to “get over”?
These heroes preserved your right to voice your opinion. It’s tragic that you abuse it.
Of course. The Obamas and fellow travelers look upon the Pearl Harbor attack as a desperate action taken by a nation who was the “victim” of American and European imperialism, oppression and racism and what we deserved and should have expected for our treatment of Japan and other non-white nations.
And while the pResident may offer empty words in remembrance of Pearl Harbor, his sympathy lies with the “oppressed” and not the “oppressors”.
That must be a rhetorical question. The answer has been in evidence for quite a long time. Although you will not get the answer you want from the troll and leftist tool.
From Oblamer’s statement:
“come to an end”, not “are decisively won”.
He takes care of our troops by using them as social experiment subjects, while looking at ways to cut benefits.
Thank God my retirement certificate has GW’s name on it.
DItto.
Incidentally , our Hyper-Smart president referred to the attack as “they dropped a bomb on Pearl Harbor”.
Why does that not surprise me. It wasnt about him, so he did not take the time to get the facts straight.
Typical of our leftists and most dems. They loathe the military as it represents our nations proclivity to imperialism and to tread on the world’s weak and oppress them. They don’t care to use our military’s power and might to end wars and conflicts decisively. They find it only useful for their social experimentation and at the moment, Obama’s own military misadventurism, not necessarily tied to our national interests at all.
For some, its the concept and not the fact that counts. Facts are hard.
My wife’s dad was on board the Nevada. He was missing for several days and was actually listed as dead before turning up. Almost every year for nearly 50 years, the local media where he lived sought him out to recount his experience, and we have a collection of cassette tapes where he describes in very vivid detail the horrible events of that day from his perspective. Never met the man, but I get very emotional when I listen to them.
My mother, was one of the youngest to survive the death camps and she has now passed into history. I fear the day when all the survivors, veterans and victims, are gone and then what they went through will, as my mother feared, become a myth.
As long as I am living and breathing that will never happen.
May G-d bless all those who served and gave their lives so that we may live in freedom.
Ilovewearingwomensunderwear, STFU, a-hole. Say that in front of an 90-something war vet, why don’t you? Just bear in mind you don’t make it to 90 by sitting around being a coward loser like you.
Aren’t flags supposed to be half-mast today? I just emailed my HR dept to ask this. The President is supposed to specify, but the current one is unreliable in this aspect.
you really are to nice to even refer to hehateshiscountry as an it. i would prefer not to refer to whatever it is at all.
What country would that be; North Korea?
I hope Michelle wields a ban hammer on this putrid punk.
Oh I know the answer. Calling him a troll is a compliment, he’s a poo-flinging monkey. And that’s an insult to monkeys.
I usually don’t believe in banning ‘people’ like that. We need to see exactly the type of people that are working to subjugate us. But I think we’ve seen enough of this idiot.
Please ban him Michelle.
Yes; it is protocol for all government offices to do so–at least that’s how it was reported here in Missouri this a.m.
ILMC: Would you use the same respone to a single mother who is struggling to make ends meet and wants more social benefits payments for herself and her children?
Would you use the same response to a women who would be denied an abortion and have to bring an unwanted child into the world?
Would you use the same response against Iraqis or Afghanis who are upset about war in their country?
Would you use the same response about OWS protestors who complain about quality of life issues and economic justice?
Amen.
I read the the Pearl Harbor Survivors Assn. is disbanding. As of late last year there were only about 1,200 remaining of the 1959′s founding membership of 28,000.
Naturally, all who survived the attack will join those who’ve passed on. We must continue to remember and honor them all for their service and sacrifice.
I rebuked it at #22–I think it left.
Well to be fair to Obama, he’s been busy giving a top-secret stealth drone to Iran.
Spacey,
ILOVEMYCOMMUNISM isn’t Satan, he is a parasite. He is your typical, modern day liberal. He belives in forcing others to do, that which he himself is not willing to do.
My cub scouts know know proper flag etiquette better than that clown in the white house.
Lower it to half-mast yourself and if anyone complains you just found ILMC for us. Kick him.
We’ve seen enough of what he/it/she has expressed on this blog. I really don’t want to actually see an image of he/it/she personally own this blog……at least without advance warning.
Wow! I cant imagine what both your father-in-law and your mother went thorugh. All I can say is the world is a better place, because they both survived.
God bless them and keep them forevere safe and free of suffering.
Please ban the troll.
OoOoOoo a late eid al-adha present?
On WFMZ-TV Allentown, PA, a 91-year-old PH survivor was interviewed; he says he still remembers every detail as if it was yesterday.
Well he didnt want to make the Iranians jealous after he gave the Stealth chopper to Pakistan.
There.
Fixed it.
MM: ILMC is the true definition of a troll. He doesn’t offer anything to the conversation and simply posts things to upset people.
I have been called a troll, but if you look at my posts, I am far from it. I intelligently discuss healthcare issues, economics, presidential candidates etc. Sure, I get out of hand with my comments about the ladies, but overall, I contribute alot to the board. ILMC does nothing of the sort.
True, but now he’s made Mexico mad. They were only getting machine guns. Now the CIA has to drop a stealth ’57 Chevy in Tijuana and make it look like an accident.
Fixed it again.
That may mean WAR!!! If ever a time Mexico could go to war with us and win….this would be a good time.

HI TRUE_SOLDIER–#11. And your brave Grandad was also a time traveler! The 8 jet engine B-52 entered service in the early 1950′s to take the H-bombs to Russia and China if necessary. Before the age of ICBM’s and effective shorter range sub launched nukes. They are still in service and are still keeping the wolves from the door.
***
I suspect he flew in prop job B-17′s, B24′s, B-25′s, or later in the B-29 bombers that destroyed Japan.
***
My Dad signed up for the Navy a few days after the Pearl Harbor attack. He was very tall and skinny and ate lots of bananas and drank lots of cream to get his weight over the minimum limit. The examining doc waived the missing 1/4 pound he lacked and he became a Navy cargo plane navigator and navigation instructor.
***
We saw him twice in 5 years–I remember going to the San Francisco Alameda Naval Air Station when I was 4 years old. He took us to his cargo plane–it had a knotted rope hanging out the door–no ladder or stairs. I grabbed his neck and he carried me up the rope into the plane. I remember the cockpit, and the radio equipment and the fold down bunk that the pilot or co-pilot slept in during part of the long South Pacific flights between islands. He always monitored the autopilot flight as the pilots napped. And took over control if something bad happened until the pilots woke up and got into their seats.
***
It was great when he returned unharmed after the war–despite 4 minor crash landings and 1 episode where a few Japanese soldiers shot up the plane from the woods as they landed on an island that had recently been captured from the enemy.
***
I go to church with an Army retiree who was an underage soldier at Pearl Harbor when the bombs fell. Still active, but legally blind due to old age. Brave men all–thank you. As are those brave active duty Military personnel who defend and protect us and our liberty and freedom now. Well done!

Looks like Bing is my new search engine.
I didn’t read that in his published statement.
So blissfully devoid of the ravages of intelligence.
Dear Readers,
ILMC would like to retract the previous statement due to the uproar it caused.
Just kidding.
C’mon folks, this was like 70 years ago, seems like an awful long time to hold on to something so bitter.
Plus we did drop nukes on Japan, they aren’t still bitter, they have moved on.
The Germans aren’t bitter, they have moved on.
Even the Russians aren’t bitter.
All I’m saying is that we should take a more Christian approach to past transgressions.
The initial response I got back from HR was that our company is private not public, but I pushed back and said that it would be a nice show of United respect. They emailed back that I was right and they’re looking to have it done. Hey small victories still count.
non-apology not accepted.

If there was one wish that I could have granted it would be to take YOU and every single Liberal, OWS type and Hipster and sentence them to a Bataan Death March – complete with everything and have you and your vermin ilk suffer and beg and when you are on the edge – medical services will be given and then you can dwell on the experience for the rest of your un-natural life.
I don’t see any bitterness in commemorating the sacrifices of heroes.
Do you think there aren’t ceremonies in Japan commemorating the dropping of the nukes? I suspect they are not done in bitterness either. But in honor and respect for their countrymen and women that died.
The only bitterness I see is from you, because respect shown to those who served with honor remind that you have none.
Had to add that.
You are correct. If you remember, Obama wanted to go and apologize for the dropping of the bombs and the Japanese government told him no. They said that it was not neccessary and would only inflame emotions.
FOAD, ILMC.
Pity that our own President could not understand that simple thought.

So I guess you and your ilk will get over the following items:
1. The 1968 Dhimmicrat National Convention.
2. The election of the best president ever, Ronald Reagan, in both 1980 and 1984.
3. The election of George H.W. Bush in 1988.
4. The election of one of the most courageous presidents, George W. Bush, in both 2000 and 20004.
If not, then do as so many commenters have requested and STFU.
Oh, and BTW – if you have a problem with this, try knocking me down a bunch of stairs.
I double-dog dare you.

Know any Japanese folks, dill-hole? I work in a building full of them. Do you think they’re over it? My company HQ is in Hiroshima. It was one of the few buildings left standing in 1945. They’re not what you so flippantly call ‘over it.’
No one remembering today is bitter. We, as adults and people that REALLY DO love our country, are honoring the lost and remembering sacrifices and courage.
I wouldn’t normally say this, but it really is time for you to be removed from the commenters here.
BTW: Have you compared Hiroshima to Detroit? Hiroshima is a thiving and industrious city today. I work with people that had to Escape from
New YorkDetroit. Detroit is run by your type of politician. Now get lost.
Thank you for your kind words. Both are now gone, and so let’s keep their memory alive.
Thanks again.
Alas, it appears my company is not going to honor the men and woman sacrificed on this day, with this small gesture of lowering the flag.
Hey Truesoldier if you act really angry the other posters on this site will think you really love America.
To me your still just a loser, but I think everyone else is impressed.
Peter Hughs on the other hand, is not a loser. He/she is just nuts.
The greatest President ever is Barack Hussein Obama – the guy won a Nobel prize like 12 days into office.
Obama dances the best:

Here’s a little more advice for you folks: You’re starting to sound like Jesse Jackson, you know how he likes to manipulate people over stuff that happened 60 years ago? Yeah, you folks are starting to sound like that.
I don’t know why I am wasting time with you, but here goes in case it sinks in to your pea-brain.
Remembering Pearl Harbor is not an exercise in hatred, bearing a grudge or chest-thumping. Its purpose is to remind ourselves of what our country stands for (or is supposed to) and how exceptional the American nation is in the history of a human race that is typified by tyranny and oppression.
It is also meant to honor and memorialize those who served and sacrificed so that we may enjoy the blessings of liberty and freedom, of which because of personal connections, I do every day of my life.
Now, please. GO AWAY…
You can think that all you want, but the reality of it is you have no honor, you have no love of country, all you have to keep you warm is your vile hatred of anything that is America. Honestly, I pitty you. To have so much hatred in your life consuming you that you have to come and try to desecrate a memorial to those who have sacrificed so that you can freely spew your hatred just to make your self feel important is truly sad.
Friends, it’s obvious to the most casual observer that ILickMyCankers is simply baiting us.
This is “Nanner, nanner, nanner” on the playground. He can’t be serious.
I picture ILMC as the frenchman on the castle ramparts, giving a raspberry to Arthur, King of the Britons.
That would be giving him far too much credit.
Funny story on 12/7, in the movie Tora,Tora,Tor, there is a scene about a female fight instructor giving a flying lesson to a young fellow and wound up in the formation of the attack. I have been told by a local flight instructor she also ran the largest brothol on the islands
And then he broke his campaign promises to get out of Iraq and Afghanistan and then started another war in Libya.
Ironic huh?
But this is the problem with all liberals, TS. They are so consumed by hatred and envy they cannot even pause to honor those that sacrificed so they could freely enjoy their hate.
ILMC deserves nothing. If he truly believes Oboosevelt is the greatest president ever, it’s because he cannot comprehend cause, effect, and truth in general.
ILMC, how did your brain even learn human speech?
The Nobel Prize is the only thing on earth that has been de-valued more than the Euro!
Did you ever see the movie ‘Mimic’?
Although del Toro was unhappy with the film as released, it includes several examples of his most characteristic hallmarks. “I have a sort of a fetish for insects, clockwork, monsters, dark places, and unborn things,” said del Toro.
