Obama: Extending Unemployment and Payroll Tax Break Will Create More Jobs Than Keystone Pipeline

By Doug Powers  •  December 8, 2011 04:36 PM

**Written by Doug Powers

The Labor Secretary nods in agreement.

From the Washington Examiner:

President Obama said that he will delay his vacation and keep Congress in session until the passage of his desired payroll tax cut and unemployment benefits extension — two proposals that Obama said would create more jobs than the Keystone XL pipeline that his administration recently delayed.
[...]
As Obama called for passage of those bills, he also responded to a recent Republican push to require him to approve the construction of the Keystone XL pipeline from Canada. “However many jobs might be generated by a Keystone pipeline,” he said, “they’re going to be a lot fewer than the jobs that are created by extending the payroll tax cut and extending unemployment insurance.”

Look for the White House to propose a compromise that would be acceptable to both labor unions and environmentalists while creating more jobs than anybody can possibly imagine: The construction of a 1,600 mile pipeline through which would flow economy-boosting unemployment checks.

No jive. At least in our bracket, all it meant last year was a few extra sheckels in Mrs. W’s check but at the end of the year, we basically had to pay it back.

So that’s great news for video store clerks. Oh wait, we go to Redbox? Darn you Redbox..! Who’s up for starting a Firewood Cutter’s Union?

I wondering if he is bluffing (I guess someone could just ask him you know he will tell you if he is) in hopes that the GOP will cave (like usual) and say ok we wont pass the bill. Of course he probably would not have to worry about a veto as Harry Reid would probably just not bring the House bill up for a vote.

Great minds and all. I had the same thought earlier today. Pass legislation that make the unions conform to some union type bylaws in order to exist. Make them pay 10% of their dues or they can’t be certified by the governnment union and therefore can’t enforce any of their rules.

Let the governors be the state local boss and watch the fun begin.

Oh fine, so now he’s going to create more jobs than the pipeline by doing things that have been done for the past two years and have not improved the unemployment situation by more than .4%. Is this idiocy, or what?

How can the tax breaks and unemployment checks create more jobs than the 1,100 estimated to be created immediately by the pipeline, with possibly thousands more to come?

If our DOE and DEQ would get out of the way of our own development of gas and oil, many thousands of jobs would be created and we could become more energy independent and quit depending on Middle Eastern oil.

On top of that, he’s impacting Canada’s economy by preventing the pipeline construction and they are not very happy. Just another little misstep in our forign relations, but what the heck, he obviously knows best, especially in view of his 24/7 campaigning for re-election.

If they fail, Trump could then announce he is running and by seizing the lead, he would prove once again how utterly weak the GOP truly is.

“Anyone but Hillary” got us Obama in 2008. It is beginning to look like “Anyone but Obama” will get us Hillary in 2012. Is Hannity again going to seal the deal next year with another “Operation Chaos”?

I thought that was Rush, but at any rate, what got us Obama was a disdain for Bush and an ignorant electorate in the rural Midwest—which looking at Ohio and WI hasn’t changed a whole lot—and by older Americans who didn’t vote and/or traditional democrats who make excuses to get government checks and try and equate leftist socialists and Democrat experiments with Marxism to casting a vote for Harry S Truman or JFK.

Rove may have been smart about getting W re-elected, but he’s a tad more of a tool than he realizes.

Hannity isn’t favoring anyone yet, which is fine, but he’d probably settle for another McCain.

I can think of a couple of talk show hosts (among other Americans) who will go third party if the GOP picks a bunch of RINOS, even if it means re-electing Pelosi as speaker and B. Hussien/biden.

I’m hoping that Bachmann can make a good at it, but she needs to advertise agood economic plan.

What was the OLD ‘obscene nickname’ I had? I’m sure there are a lot of people with the name of Phillis (spelled any way you want) that are offended by your inference that their name is obscene. Shame on you, Phillis.

No mention of OWS nor of Obama’s class and race warfare which he himself has contributed mightily to. This is today’s GOP. No thank you. I’m voting 3rd party.

While I do believe all 3 have cogent comments to make, and can make a valued contribution to Ms Malkin’s blogsite, I believe they have gotten too caught up in personal animosity to do so at this time.

Perhaps if the 3 (and anyone else who would rather engage in ad-hominem battles than debating the topic at hand) are given a “cooling-off” period, they can come back and focus on the topic, rather than each other.

Calling Phil “Phillis” or “Phildo”, calling Ok_Loyalist “putz”, does nothing to contribute to the discussions, increases the noise to signal ration, provides fodder for Ms Malkin’s detractors, and invites others to likewise engage in personal disputes rather than discussion of the topics at hand.

It’s one thing to call Obama an “idiot” for (for example) claiming unemployment extensions will create more jobs than a pipeline (and then explaining why), it’s another to call a fellow contributor a sexual organ or instrument; neither addresses why their position is right or wrong, and neither provides argument to back up the assertions.

IMO, it’s not going to end until either the participants, individually, decide they are not going to engage in ad hominem anymore, or they are banned into doing so.

More unemployment benefits will help out our economy? Then why not just “do the right thing” and have the Gubmint send every man, woman, and child a $1 MILLION buck check every year? No need for any employment, crops, products, etc. Just kick back and buy what you want! Collect 50 percent of the million for taxes to pay for the costs.
    ***
And Hilda’s Department of (Union) Labor shakedown lawsuit against Boeing’s 787 Dream Liner factory in South Carolina worked like a charm. Boeing had to cut an economically damaging deal with the Washington State Unions to keep from going bankrupt. With lots of lost jobs in the interim as the Jessie Jackson / Al Sharpton style shakedown and Willie Sutton type holdup played out. Don Corleone would be proud of this “wise” (aka biased) Latina. She plays Tony Soprano style hardball. Boeing should consider moving their production lines to the Czech Republic or the Ukraine states–they will get a far better deal and lower costs there.

When will we finally have a government that works for the U.S. People instead of the corruptocrat and corrupican / RINO hoard of crony capitalist parasites that are bleeding our economy dry now? At some point too many parasites on a dog kill it.

Apparently, with Newt and Romney leading the pack… the RNC still hasn’t learned.

And how exactly did you send this message? By voting for Obama, the way you’ve been threatening to do in 2012? Hint: that won’t get you noticed as a conservative fed up with big government.

Hint #2: When all the votes for the two major party candidates add up to exactly 100%, the “message” doesn’t exactly jump out at anyone.

This is not suprising in the least: Obama is showing his economic philosophy. If he actually believed in the free market, and also believes that jobs created by the government (which are paid with tax dollars) are better that private sector jobs (that actually supply the tax dollars that pay the jobs he wants to create), then he is a financial dolt. But if he believes that all money really belongs to the government anyway, and all he needs to do is direct it to where it is best used, then he is a Marxist. I have yet to see anything come out of him that does not exhibit a belief that the government is the source of everything. That is bad enough, but what scares me is the number of people (voters) that have bought into it as well.
