The last Haditha Marine: Wuterich trial update

By Michelle Malkin  •  January 5, 2012 06:19 PM

I told you on Monday about the opening of SSgt Frank D. Wuterich’s trial this week in connection to an alleged massacre of Iraqi civilians in the village of Haditha in 2005. Seven have been exonerated. Wuterich is the last Haditha Marine standing.

Here’s the very latest on the proceedings.

SSgt Wuterich’s defense team succeeded in getting 4 more charges dismissed in the case.

Jury selection is underway.

Puckett Faraj is providing continuous updates on Twitter here.

SSgt Wuterich’s support site is here. Much more background from Defend Our Marines here.

I’ll continue to post dispatches until there’s a verdict.

May that verdict never be reached. May it result in the JAG tossing it all out and scolding the over-zealous prosecution for chasing phantoms. Semper Fi, my brother Marine! Jack Murtha isn’t worthy of cleaning the sludge off of your boots!

I hope I never cease to be amazed and appalled by the willingness of the uninvested to expend other peoples’ money to prosecute the perpetrators of their idiot policies.

My thoughts and prayers are with our good son SSgt. Wuterich and Michelle thank you so much for keeping this first and foremost on your site. We get so caught up in our everyday chores and forget about those who protect our very right to carry on each day. The thought of this man being on trial just makes my stomach turn. God help us all!

Amen. With as many prog-debacles as there are to cover, God love Michelle for ensuring we don’t forget. I can’t imagine the hell this young NCO’s life has been.

I expect he’ll be cleared as well. It’s a shame Murtha won’t be around to appologize for condemning all his fellow leathernecks before any details or facts were even known.

    As if he even would.

I pray that those who are judging this give ‘YOU ARE FREE Marine’ verdict. And while the judges are at it, say that ship named after murtha should be re-named! God be with all our wonderful military under this slug cic!

    Shame on Murtha.
Amen, Granny55, on getting caught up in our everyday lives. It is men like Wuterich who make it possible for us to get caught up in the mundane.

I just researched whether Wuterich has to pay his own legal bills. He does. What a shame some of Murtha’s estate couldn’t be used to defend him.

I add prayers for all charges to be dropped and his name cleared.

This is so disgusting, I’m afraid I’ll type something that’ll get me kicked out. Later, people. Pray for SSgt. Wuterich.

My guess is that he will be convicted of something. If not, too many people will question why these trials took place at all, and that will be embarrassing. If he is convicted of even just one item that would satisfy the powers that be. I don’t know which one, of course, but that is how the system works. It’s a show trial, so some one must pay something. I hope I am wrong, but in my readings and experience that is how these kinds of trials work.

HI TIGER_LADY–#11. I don’t see how a SSG Marine could possibly pay much of his legal bills. And after so much time has passed witnesses may be very unreliable. Not to mention that some may be the enemy-with a lot of axes to grind.

And the Government has unlimited legal talent and beaucoup money to convict the Marine. After the others were turned loose for lack of evidence. I think this is the correct action in this case. They have been treated very shabbily by our Government.

We The People…are the powers that be, this is an insult to our entire military personnel…the brave young soldiers that fight for our freedom.

The “system” is what’s wrong with America in these days, not the people and sure as hell not the people that fight for America.

I spit on Murtha and his memory.

My friend’s son was a corpsman with the marines for 3 tours in the mid east. He said the first two were okay but by the third the politics re: how you could fight, defend yourself etc…were so ridiculous he got out.

These guys should never have to worry about their backs here in America. I finally donated to his defence fund–hope his lawyers do a great job. These guys deserve the best.
