Saturday Night GOP Debate Open Thread

There are actually two Republican debates in New Hampshire in a period of 12 hours. The first in the twin bill will be on ABC tonight at 9 p.m. EST. Hopefully if there’s any real action at the debate it’ll take place during halftime when I’m most likely to flip over to ABC to watch.

Diane and George will once again return to moderate:

With the race for the Republican presidential nomination at its most critical moment to date, only days before the crucial New Hampshire primary, the six candidates will square off Saturday night in Manchester at an ABC News/Yahoo! News/WMUR debate that has the potential to be the most explosive one yet.

The debate, the only broadcast network debate in prime-time before the primary, will air from 9-11 p.m. ET from Saint Anselm College, where it will be moderated by ABC News’ Diane Sawyer and George Stephanopoulos, as well as WMUR-TV anchor Josh McElveen.

You can find live video online at this link. It’ll be the first debate without Michele Bachmann.

On Sunday morning, if you’re not burned out, the NBC News-Facebook debate will take place on Meet the Press.

Romney has a 20-ish point lead in New Hampshire heading into Tuesday’s primary, so look for Mitt to take some hits from the others as they try to chip away at that lead. Romney is also leading in South Carolina with Santorum second.

Meanwhile, Buddy Roemer has no plans to quit the race. He’s expected to be out in front of the venue in Manchester debating a meter maid over the validity of a parking ticket stuck under the wiper of his rental car, so everybody’s getting in on the action tonight.

Have a good night all. Go Lions!

Update – MM: I’m live-tweeting the debate here.

We’re chuckling over the debate being preceded by one of my family’s favorite game shows, Wipeout. I joked last month that we should make the GOP candidates run the obstacle course.

Even better idea: Replacing ABC News moderators Diane Sawyer and George Stephanopoulos with the Wipeout co-hosts!
