The 11 Other Solyndras
**Written by Doug Powers

Yesterday there was another White House document dump regarding Solyndra’s bankruptcy filing just after the 2010 elections. While Solyndra is the crown jewel in the Department of Energy’s “you can’t make a green omelette without breaking a few hundred million taxpayer eggs” trial-and-error initiative, there are many other examples.
CBS News’ Sharyl Attkisson — who was one of the first reporters on the Solyndra trail — featured 11 other DoE loan recipients that either have or probably will take a Solyndra-style plunge and suck down $6.5 billion of taxpayer loans with them.
Video by way of Real Clear Politics:
*****
The DoE isn’t playing with their own money, so no credit risk is too great:
In the case of Beacon Power, even if the company ended up receiving the DOE loan guarantee, Standard and Poor’s analysis indicated it still wouldn’t be a smart investment. The credit agency’s ratings services division assigned Beacon Power a “CCC+” Final Rating.
Standard and Poor’s defines a “CCC” rating as “currently vulnerable” and “dependent upon favorable business, financial, and economic conditions to meet its financial requirements.”
Somebody needs to scrutinize the rigor in the Department of Energy’s process of rigorous scrutiny. Or maybe insisting that DoE officials must invest a dollar of their own money in these projects for every thousand dollars of taxpayer money would help tighten the vetting process.
Final note: Not every Solyndra employee lost his or her job. There are still 84 people working there — a couple dozen of which might even receive bonuses this year.

Sharyl Attkisson deserves a whole slew of Pulitzer prizes for her work in trying to expose the Obama thuggery and illegalities. Too bad she’s one of only a handful who refuse to drink the Kool-Aid.
I hope she has full time security!
Somehow I have a feeling that there are going to be much more of these little darlings go belly up at taxpayers expense? bho just keeps on a given and a given taxpayers money to foto’s doesn’t he? Gads bho and his whole stinken team are worthless, lie, and are crooks!
L
Why don’t they just go ahead and make the DOE part of the Commerce Department?
Both serve to squelch free enterprise and regulate commerce.
Hear that? More of our money being flushed down the toilet. THAT must be part of the “green jobs” initiative.
***
A whole new universe of Comrade Obama “shovel ready” projects! Win-Win-Lose all over the place.
***
Comrade Obama wins! His crony capitalist companies win! The American Taxpayers lose bigtime!
***
Repeat as necessary–or until the U.S.A. is bankrupt. Like Maggy Thatcher said, “Socialism only works until you run out of other people’s money!”. I think we are about there now.
***
Keep up the good work, Comrade! We’ll reward you as you so richly deserve on Nov. 6, 2012. TSUNAMI II coming over the horizon into view.

As long as O is willing to talk tough in terms of the U.S.’ military power, conservatives really won’t care how many Solydra’s are created.
How about an update of Marizela instead?
There is no end of this gov stupidity.
There are doing too many jobs for which those in them are inept and not qualified. When will these people resign of get fired?
***
HI 123UPNORTH–I don’t think there is any new information on Marizela–or we would have seen it here already.
***
Think of the Natalie Holloway “case” in Aruba. A small island–some video of her–and nothing real since. A missing person who can’t be found.
***
Marizela may have had something similar happen to her–a predator. And the Washington State / Canada area is gigantic compared to Aruba. With lots of heavily forested areas, lots of rivers / creeks / oceans / shorelines, etc.
***
Searchers missed finding Saundra Levy for a year in a small forested park in the Washington D.C. area. But in this case and the Aruba case–the murderers were finally apprehended for other crimes and were put in jail. The Aruba killer will rot in a tough cold Peruvian jail for 28 years if he isn’t murdered there. And the Levy killer is in prison for a long time also.
***
Sooner or later the truth–and payback–occurs. Just ask O.J. Simpson how he likes his new digs in the desert North of Las Vegas.

@123upnorth–
“…conservatives won’t care how many Solyndras are created????
So that’s why we’re on this site discussing it??
I do agree, however, about getting an update on Marizela, Michelle.
Here is another “Energy Loss” story.
Georgia ethanol plant sold, at taxpayers’ loss
This was done in 2007, the year the Ds took over Congress.
Some key quotes…
Need to scan the story to understand this quote. He is investing in the place AGAIN.
The whole Obama administration is shovel-ready. Starting to smell….
*I was well pleased with Sharyl Attkisson many years ago when I watched CBS; Unaware of her politics, but getting the truth out seems her highest priority, something sadly missing with the MSM; Glenn Beck would hire her!
*I say we get Bain Capital to take over the Federal Government; The CEO would be the first to go, then they could lay waste to the rest of it; I want a Federal Government to do only what is allowed for by the constitution, which would cost approx. 180 billion per year!; Let the states do all else, period!!!!
CBS? Really? You mean, there IS hope that the media might start reporting truth? This would save our country, if it was really happening!
Every one of these expensive boondoggles MUST be investigated and brought before the American People. WE are paying for this with our sweat and toil and we have absolutely NO say in the matter. If this isn’t enough to throw these criminals out of the WH, I don’t know what is! Keep spreading the word, folks. Send this information to everyone in your address books. Tell everyone you can. This stuff is supposed to be done under the radar. We can expose their treachery for everyone to see! FOX is doing it. CBS apparently is at least trying. I am encouraged.
Also encouraging is the Supereme Court decision this week about Obama’s insistance that Churches and Synagogues can’t discriminate against anyone in hiring a minister. In other words, if someone who is gay, or a pedophile, or an atheist, wants the job, they should be considered. The SC ruled that religious institutions are protected against Government interference in their decisions, as it is stated in the First Amendment. Obama is probably fuming over that one!!
This also gives me hope that they will also be as fair-minded when dealing with the obamacare issue.
You’re on to something bjc. I think the “Baining” of the federal government could get rid of waste of all kinds. Those overpaid political appointees would cry over their firing about being “Bained.” They would be the “B’aints.”
Chicago on the Potomac!!! What an abject lie – green energy!?! This entire administration should be impeached!?!
This is so outside Constitutional mandate. A few people in Washington, with a monetary interest in promoting this confidence game, decide that this entire nation, all 300 million individuals, must convert to certain forms of energy production, and away from others.
Where in the Constitution does it grant the government the power to take away our individual liberty this way? And to fund it by confiscating the fruits of our own labor? (Well, there is that 16th Amendment for that one…)
To force the country to go green this way would require a Constitutional amendment on a par with the 18th.
The truly scary part is the number of sheeple out there who either see nothing wrong with this, or are enthusiastic about this crusade to save the planet at the expense of individual liberty.
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again:
Green is the New Stupid
and
Green is as Stupid Does.
Btw, the media, including Fox (hello Bill O’Really) are spinning Obama’s latest gambit as “Obama wants to streamline the executive branch”.
That’s not what Obama has said. Why do people insist on replacing what he says with what they want to believe?
Obama asked Congress for the power to reorganize the executive branch.
It’s a power grab, not a concession to capitalism.
*I don’t believe most people realize we are already very close to insolvency; The debt and the deficit are the problems, caused by runaway spending, with Medicare being the 800 lb Gorilla; I’m not a big fan of Romney(Michele Bachmann was my choice), but he alone has the credentials to reverse this fiscal death spiral we are in; Another 4 years of P-BO, and we are beyond 26 Trillion in debt; The reversal HAS to start in Jan., 2013 or it is actually, really, all over, with the Solyndra’s being minor footnotes in our collapse!
What praytell has Romney ever done that would lead you to that conclusion?
S&P = They have no standards, thus we’re poor.
Filthy, mangy democrats. Their only purpose is to use our money to stay in power. Disgusting.
And by the way, since when have executive branch departments been able to make loans to the private sector? I say leave the business of lending money to banks. These corrupt administrations can no longer be trusted, our government should be banned from making any future loans. Period.
*Not to worry RC, I’ll be voting my concience on Super Tuesday for Ron Paul, but my pragmatism will be needed come November.
*In regards to the Mittster, he understands the bottom line, that we are broke, and how to grow the economy while shrinking the size of government; Not sure he or anyone else running has the c.o. jones to tell the folks the painful truth, then to go about doing what’s necessary.
Have you not heard about what Sharyl has been doing digging up krap from the F&F issue? This lady is doing things that could put her life in danger dealing with bho, holder, and his entire team? She needs security big time, IMO!
And the SC is dealing with the krap the epa has been doing to a couple over land issues! If the SC finds for the couple, bho’s epa will take a hit big time!
L
Maybe that’s part of the “streamlining” of the executive that Obama asked Congress for the power to do…
What jumped out at me was an EXPECTED (built-in) loss of $2.4 Billion. Are you kidding me?? We create a program where if all goes as planned, we expect to lose $2.4 Billion dollars, and that’s okay? No, that’s not okay, and that’s what you get when you pick winners and losers and don’t have a clue what you’re looking for, e.g., Chu the math whiz not having a clue about finance or energy, green or otherwise. Even if he did know what to look for, it’s not government’s job. Our money is not supposed to be backing risky business.
BONUSES for the remaining Solyndra employees???!!!! How about a Taxpayer Protection Law preventing, prohibiting, denying, disallowing, and otherwise making it illegal (defintion to be included for politicians since they don’t seem to have a clue as to what this word actually means) for any employee of a governmental agency, quasi-governmental agency, or government funded entity to receive any sort of bonus compensation unless a PROFIT is made. That would save billions over their beloved ten-year period.
Bingo. And there isn’t a politician in Washington that doesn’t want it that way.
The tree of liberty must be refreshed….etc etc

I’m taken by the story coming from CBS(Commies Broadcasting Stench) great reporting on the part of Sharyl Attkisson, thank you.
I believe I saw Charlie Rose saying to himself…”I can’t hear you…) during the reporting vid.
Now if the Congressional Repukian Leadership had a set like Ms. Attkisson.
Which of the Republican candidates will hammer on this issue over and over and over during the general campaign?
I’m not sure but I know it WON’T be Romney!
Many more billions are going under the wire to large (not at risk) energy companies, whose profits are guaranteed through the Public Service Commission.
Subsidized wind turbines are costing the taxpayer not only in the subsidy but in the rates we will pay for electricity. It’s a double whammy. Over $3 billion in windmills are to be built (with up to 50% subsidy)in the thumb of Michigan alone in 2012.
The 2012 campaign will be focused on some minor thing the GOP nominee did in 1992 that will be elevated to the level of the Manson killings. That will be the issue reported 24×7 by the media. Fast and Furious, Solydra, the debt the corruption etc.etc. etc. will simply be drowned out in the MSM white noise.
Nothing will touch Barry in 2012.
Mutt probably bought 100,000 shares and sold short.
I’m thinking that whoever was delegated the task of tilting the playing field by skewing regs to promote “favorable business, financial, and economic conditions” in favor of Beacon and other favored companies has fallen short. So much for their bonus.
Happens far too often. Barry sees himself as a blank slate upon which his Kool-Aid followers can write upon it whatever they wish.
Those are just symptoms of the problem. The real problem is the mindset that replaced the vision that the Founders had at the inception of this novel experiment. The replacement began not that long after the constitution was adopted when the courts began to enlarge federal power and authority over the states.
The smear campaign against Herman Cain is further evidence of what you wrote. Where is the evidence? Has anyone seen or heard anything more since he dropped out? I haven’t.
To compel a man to subsidize with his taxes the propagation of ideas which he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical. ….Thomas Jefferson
Well, mission accomplished, right? A genuine conservative threat has been neutralized.
It wasn’t just the accusations, he came unglued on several occasions making him look very weak and vulnerable. In the end he was not the man I believed he was and its likely a good thing he didn’t make it. Now bring on Alan West!
I’ve brought up David Patreaus several times and gotten no response. A proven record of leadership, courage, innovative solutions to vast complex problems, a true patriot, family and moral values… Geez, I would vote for him in a heartbeat. He’ll never run – he loathes politics and politicians – yet I find that another positive factor. He might consider if there were a groundswell of support to draft him. Just a thot. Wondering if anyone else is on that wavelink.
It is time WE THE PEOPLE take back our government. It does not start with the President, but with the Congressmen, and elected state, county, and city officials. WE THE PEOPLE need to draft a charter to which our elected officals must live up to.
A quick lesson on the people we are dealing with and the caliber, or lack of, of this group. Washington DC is a classic choice for examination because of the brain dead population voting in equally brain dead, destructive by impulse Socialist Democrat reps –”D.C.’s new rat law, the Wildlife Protection Act of 2010, is “crazier than fiction” because it requires vermin not be killed but rather captured, preferably in families, and transferred to a “wildlife rehabilitator.”
In a nut shell this means that Rats, yes Rats, from the ODC cesspool encampment cannot be killed, they have to be trapped and relocated.
Remember the open letter written about not the Sock Puppet but the people themselves that voted him in? Same goes for Washington DC.
Like, say… a CONSTITUTION or something?? You’d be hard pressed to come up with a better document than that – and if the Congress Critters and POTUS ignore that, what difference would a new charter make?
Not tracking you here. We need to force them to live up to the Constitution, no?
Please help make this bad man go far, far, far away.
Perhaps a space colony?
There’s a reason the Warren Buffetts, Bain Capitals and Venture Capitalists didn’t invest in these money pits that Obama did.
$6.5 billion of borrowed monies us taxpayers are on the hook for, is Obama’s only ‘hook shot.’
___‹^›__‹(•¿•)›__‹^›___
Romney’s top campaign contributors.
Obama’s top campaign contributors.
Notice all the banks for both, especially Romney? And what is US Government for Obama?
Who do you think will best represent those of us who are fed up with crony capitalism when both are being bought and paid for by the same crony capitalists?
LO3E in 2012.
The “favorable conditions” were supposed to be the purposefully engineered skyrocketing of fossil fuel energy prices, and the people who were supposed to go bankrupt were the companies that run existing coal-fired power plants.
Didn’t quite work out in Barry O’s first term, but if he gets a second, it’ll be “Try, Try Again.”
On January 14th, 2012 at 9:05 pm, Flyoverman said:
Quite right; this is what I’ve been referring to as millions of dollars of unreported in-kind campaign contributions from the Voluntary State Media.
The only real antidote will be a combination of having a GOP candidate with minimal personal baggage (none of them will be completely free of it), coupled with a remorseless, relentless drive to never, never let Obama get any distance from his record. With that, and lots of prayer, maybe — just maybe — we can avoid the “Try, Try Again” plan above.
The other thing to notice is that the money so far is still going to Obama. So much for “electability” where the only determining criteria is money. Maybe we need to start banking on principles?
I found this about the Act you refer to…
“Moreover, while the Act applies to various species such as the raccoon, possum, pigeon and squirrel, it does not serve to protect mice and rats.”
Still, it is just one more “over-the-top” bill!
Harry Reid on Meet the Depressed this a.m. said that Obama’s main focus the next four years will be on stealing from the rich and giving it to the poor. Not those exact words, but the meaning was exactly the same. Then, in the next breath, he said, “and creating jobs”. The next question should have been…How will he create jobs when everything he is doing is destroying jobs? Onerous regulations, tax increases, stopping the pipeline which would create thousands of jobs, I could go on and on.
It is so easy for these dimwits to SAY what Obama will do. Don’t listen to what they SAY, watch what they DO. That should be a bumper sticker! The talking points are the same old, same old. Add in the slogans, which are 2008 retreads, and you have the stupid lemmings falling for that crap all over again.
A LOT of people are STILL waiting for some of Obama’s “stash” and they STILL think they are going to get it. Then, when republicans take over and the “stash” is not forthcoming, the republicans are the ones who will be vilified, not Obama. Count on it.
Even if you gave Barry and Solyndra the benefit of the doubt solar cells and the means of storing the energy are inefficient. Continue to work on it, but let private companies do it with their own money. The same thing with wind produced energy.
Leftist seem to like pie-in-the-sky technology. Nice if you don’t mind wasting other people’s money.
Back to politices, Barry just gave 500 mil to a few buddies.
How many of those top contributors for both Romney and Obama were not major benefactors from TARP and Porkulus? This entire $2B campaign is being funded by the taxpayer. What’s the lesson? The same money that created the problem we are in under Bush and Obama are going to win in November. Good luck with that. Over the cliff we go.
The only way that Obama is ever going to “feel the pain” over his scandals is when in full view of the MSM, he is directly accused. Forcve them to cover it.
Some national GOP figure on an MSM show has to say, “There is enough solid evidence to conclude that the Attorney General was the approving authority on Fast and Furious that has killed hundreds of people.
Since the Attorney General serves at the pleasure of the President and would logically make no major decision like Fast and Furious without informing or consulting the President It is now time that we determine what did the President know and when did he know it. Further, we need to determine if authority to proceed with Fast and Furious came from the White House”
That should be repeated every time a GOP candidate is interviewed by the MSM.
I saw Michelle on F&F this morning talking about this. We have got to keep this before the public and if humanly possible stop all this krap coming out of bho and team!
L
The question has to repeatedly be asked, “Would you investigate an Attorney General and a President of the United States, if the was solid evidence they deliberately caused a fully loaded Boeing 757 full of civilians to crash?”
In any discussion of Fast and Furious the term “body count” needs to be used.
Don’t hold your breath. The candidates don’t want to go there because it presents an opportunity to point out that Bush did the very same thing with ethanol and other special pet interests and that they voted for it.
They dread inviting a spotlight that shows that everyone but Ron Paul supported TARP and Porkulus. And it gets worse. Before approving TARP, Congress had rejected Bush efforts to authorize a GM/Chrysler bailout. Yet Bush illegally issued an executive order to use TARP funds (which were specifically authorized to be used only to relieve the banks of troubled assets) to bail out the two auto companies after TARP was approved. And Congress did nothing.
That is why the GOP is in such a mess. Obama is only doing things that Bush did before him and the facts bear it out. It’s the “pots vs pans” problem. We are being asked to vote for a difference with no distinction. It is a one-party system backed by the same money across the board. We hang on their words while the politicians deliver for the money.

Howdy Happy,
I am still confused as to the Sock Puppet definition of “Jobs” Make work like most Gov. jobs or actual jobs that produce something of tangible value?
I listen to the Sock Puppet and his minions squealing about off shore jobs, but the dirty secret is – his corporate minions off shore by contracting International Firms that specialize in Function and Job Contracting. Meaning that, any function that does not require outside field work, will be done off shore. I know, I work for a firm that does this and the only thing that lets me keep my job is I work out of of the office most of the time. All the paperwork, data bases etc is done in India.
This is a HUGE part of the problem!! And it all goes back to the unions. Add in the ever-increasing minimum wages here in the U.S., and it is no wonder we ship out the jobs that can be done much cheaper overseas. The unions give out so much money in wages, pensions and benefits that their members literally fight violently to keep the unions active (re: Wisconsin et al). They aren’t willing to give up even a small portion of their benefits. I’m talking about the government unions like teachers, police, etc. Their dues money goes to the union bosses who spend it on political favors, and it is the taxpayers that are on the hook to pay those enormous salaries and pensions. If they won’t give some of that up, this country is screwed. That is one of the biggest problems we face in this country…the POWER of the unions and how the democrats support them with all their might!
The minimum wage is also destroying jobs because the restaurants, etc. can’t afford to pay their dishwashers and other menial labor any more. High schoolers who need part time jobs, and college kids on summer break who need jobs to help pay their tuition, can’t find a job. It is a huge deck of cards that is ready to collapse.
The regressives tactics WILL destroy us. And they know it. So why do they continue to do the same thing? Because most of them want to take this country down and replace our system with socialism. Once that happens, they will have the power to steal everything we have.
I don’t believe it will come to that because of the Patriot spirit that still exists in the majority of people in this country. We will not go quietly into this madness.
It is so interesting to see that nearly half the country doesn’t even get that!! Thanks, public education, paid for with our tax money!!
What the he!! is wrong with this picture????
On your issue with jobs, this is an interesting article on what bho is doing with jobs! Not funny one tiny bit! We will NEVER get the truth out of bho and team about all they have done and are doing because of all the fuzzy math coming out weekly!

I concur.
Public sector unions are a cancer on the country.
A perfect description of what we are going through, and the treatment will be very painful, recovery uncertain. We need to surgically remove this tumor from our country.
Unions once had a purpose. They are no longer serving the original purpose but have devolved into total corruption.

RedDog has brought up several times in the last few days about socialist need to control language.
The definition of socialism, years ago, included redistribution of money. Call it wealth if you wish. Now the definition of socialism is the government owns all property and the means of production, according to Merriam Webster.
The definition of Communism was the government owns all the property and the means of production. Now the only difference is that Communism now includes controlling a societies believe system.
Back to controlling language. The very basics of communication can be changed and influence just about anyone and anything. Like politics.
The idea for me is that change the definition of socialism then we don’t have socialism. Money going to individuals as welfare and companies is no longer bad because it isn’t socialism.
I watched Reid on Meet the Depressed this a.m. He really is prissy and girly when he talks. Just listen and watch him sometime, if you have a strong stomach. He sounds like a girl. Maybe that is why he misses his pomegranate trees and howls about a cancelled Cowboy Poets festival!
But even more important, he lies with every word. This a.m., as I mentioned before, he gave some great song and dance about the wonderful things Obama has planned, but it boiled down to wealth redistribution. All you need to understand what he is really saying is to be informed and then listen carefully to his words.
The people in NV who re-elected this TRAITOR are much to be blamed and they own this country an apology!!
I have already changed the definition of socialism in my mind to communism or marxism. Stronger terms and more descriptive of the reality. These tactics are not strictly socialistic. There are other countries with socialism that are not as corrupt as our leaders are here. Our leaders are more dictatorial and have decided that they no longer work FOR us, but are working IN SPITE of us! Our current “leaders” are out to take what they can get, obtain POWER over the masses, and keep us oppressed.
I will say it again. Taxation with MISrepresentation is tyranny. 1776 will need to be repreated before this is fixed. This amazing, fertile, beautiful, FREE country must not be given away out of apathy.
The dregs on our society who are not willing to do their share FOR this country need to step up or get stepped ON!
I wouldn’t be surprised if I heard that MM’s blog and the comments are being monitored by the government. Bring it on! We are still a country bound to our Constitution and we will not give up our rights easily.
I have had a LOT of attempts to inject virus into my computer through this blog. Fortunately, I have installed an excellent program that is stopping them. The program tells me every time there is an attempt and it seems those attempts are increasing.
I use a separate computer for my genealogy database and keep it backed up. I suggest that you all use a computer that would not house valuable data you would be devastated to lose. There are many creepy, evil people out there who want to destroy the conservative movement and they will inject viruses if they can. It is one of their low-life tactics.
I am at peace with the knowledge that they will pay for their treason one day. I have NO doubts about that. One day they will answer for their actions and it won’t be pretty.
I have also. My anti-virus gets them too. I haven’t had that problem on HA so far, that is the only other blog I post on.
L
Actually, it didn’t. That used to be called communism, before the politically correct banned the word: “From each according to his abilities, to each according to his needs”. Socialism was, and is, government ownership of the means of production (like GM). Since in practical terms the end result is a mixture of the two plus fascism (government control of production via a submissive, nominally private sector), the easiest all-encompassing term is “Marxism”. You could also substitute the term “feudalism”, because that’s what it amounts to (everything belongs to the king, and he apportions it out to his favored subordinates). However, the most common terms today are “liberal” and “progressive”. They all mean the same thing.
Saw this on a bumper today
They are targeting MM for virus attacks. I lost a hard drive and was absent for a while. My new computer informs me of foiled attacks frequently.
Just replaced my totally infected computer. There is something going on with this site.
It may have other sources. I haven’t had any problem here, and my Norton isn’t showing any abnormal activity.
I have Norton and use Google Chrome browser. I haven’t had virus activity regarding this site at all.
