Culture of corruption: What’s happening with the Maxine Waters ethics case?!

Mmm, mmm, mmm. The culture of corruption.
When last we revisited the House ethics case of Maxine “OneUnited Bank” Waters…nothing and more nothing was happening.
Readers of this blog will recall that I pointed out some of the incestuous ties on the House Ethics committee that muddied the Waters case last June:
The House Ethics Committee suffers from dysfunction by design. It is chronically understaffed and underfunded. The panel most recently went without a staff director for four months. Its investigative backlog was compounded by the partisan-charged suspension of two staff attorneys last fall who were knee-deep in the Waters’ probe. And the panel’s ranking Democratic member, California Rep. Linda Sanchez, is bogged down with her own ethical conflicts of interest.
Sanchez’s chief of staff, Adam Brand, is the son of the lawyer handling Waters’ ethics defense. That lawyer, Stan Brand, also represented Sanchez and her sister, Democratic Rep. Loretta Sanchez, in a separate ethics case. The sisters engaged in smelly hiring shenanigans after an aide to Loretta embezzled money from the office account in 2006. Short of funds, Loretta “borrowed” three aides from Linda’s staff. House rules ban members from paying people to do work in offices other than their own. Miraculously, Loretta’s embezzling aide avoided jail time, and the Sanchez sisters escaped any sanctions for their payroll-sharing collusion. The House ethics opinion on the matter remains confidential.
Intended to boost voters’ confidence in Congress (now at an all-time low), the committee’s stubborn secrecy and predictable wrist-slap punishments (see “Rangel, Charlie”) only make matters worse. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: House-soilers can’t be cleaners. Voters, not Washington politicians, are the ultimate ethics committee.
Now, the Friday news dump brings us word that an unprecedented SIX House members have recused themselves from the case after nearly two years of doing nothing:
The House Ethics Committee announced today that six committee members have voluntary recused themselves from the matter involving Rep. Maxine Waters and that six alternates have been appointed to hear the California Democrat’s case.
The announcement, which was delivered as a letter from Ethics Chairman Jo Bonner (R-Ala.) to Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) and read on the House floor, comes on the heels of an independent attorney’s six-month probe into whether the actions of current and former ethics panel members and staffers botched the Waters investigation by violating her due process rights.
The committee made no further statement about the status of the Waters probe or when it will continue.
…“Outside counsel has discovered no evidence indicating bias or partiality on the part of former Members or requiring the exclusion of any former Members of the Committee from serving as substitute Members. However, out of an abundance of caution and for the same reasons as the current Members volunteering their recusal, [outside counsel] Mr. [Billy] Martin has recommended that no Member who served in the 111th Congress should serve as a substitute Member in this matter,” the letter said.
Martin told the committee that he reviewed “tens of thousands of pages” of documents and interviewed current and former committee members and staffers, but one necessary witness who is not currently with the committee refused to testify when subpoenaed and it has prevented the completion of the due process review.
Foxes + Henhouse = one big smile on corruptocrat Maxine Waters’ face.

southpaw:
Oops, I meant Sioux Falls, SD. And it’s about 1000 miles.
ditto in my dreams again. I would love to get the chance to hear Africa at night…
Here ya go…
Misscheryl:
A few months ago I had the chance to hear a male lion roar at the zoo here in Idaho Falls. I was no more than 30 feet away, and let me tell you, me and Mrs. CH were TERRIFIED!! Even though we had electric wires surrounding the exhibit, at some level we were transported back to Africa. Afterwards, Mrs. CH told me: “No way we’re going on safari. EVER!”
That’s not exactly what I had in mind.
CH - I’ve been to Hawaii, but never to Africa. Something I’ve always wanted to do.
You’re right. Haven’t made it to Billings yet .
I made a drive from UP Michigan (I love long road trips) through Minnesota, the Dakotas & into the SE corner of Montana.
Stopped for breakfast at a diner in a small town in Montana. It felt like home.
On the way, I noticed on the map that I was near the geographic center of North America, so I went driving on the backroads of North Dakota, looking for some kind of marker. I didn’t find one, but when I stopped by the side of the road for a break, I noticed I was surrounded by miles of wheat fields, flowing like waves in the breeze. It was beautiful.
America is great.
Longest drive in America:
I-40 Little Rock to Memphis. {Yawn}
Misscheryl:
So do I. But Mrs. CH got enough of Africa just watching, hearing and FEELING the lion’s roar. The roar felt like what you feel when you’re next to a giant speaker: you could feel your internal organs vibrate with those low, rumbling tones. Quite impressive.
I beg to differ – Michigan to Oklahoma or California to New York when you’re 12 years old. My parents want to kill me.
sorry “wanted” I meant…but maybe “want” is still the case..arrarrrarr.
Last Sept. was doing a scratch camp 1/4 mile from “Out of Africa”, an attraction where our Game and Fish Dept. take confiscated big cats.
About 3 a.m., the lions started coughing!
Spooky when you are sleeping in a small tent. And had recently re-read “The Lions of Tsavo.”
I’m officially jealous.
On February 17th, 2012 at 5:32 pm,
Interstate 10, heading across Texas from EL Paso. When you make San Antone,
you feel like you’ve reached the promised land.
Maxine who? She can have her own little corner of that hellhole in LaLaLand.
The rest of America is great.
southpaw:
The geographic center of the U.S. is in Belle Fourche, SD. About 10 miles north of I-80. We visited on the way to Billings. You can go to the town , where they have a marker, or drive about 30 miles north, to where the exact spot is. Your description of ND reminds me of Kansas, between Manhattan and Boot Hill.
You’re right: America’s great!
Worst drive in the U.S.: I-95 between Miami and Jacksonville. Bar none.
One of the best: I-80 between Billings and Yellowstone National Park. Playing tag with the Yellowstone River, you can see pronghorn, deer and bison from the road. Lots of birds too, specially in the spring. No cities, only little towns, not too much traffic. Beautiful scenery.
I love San Antonio, but you are prolly right about driving across Texas from EL Paso. Ish.
southpaw:
I meant Dodge City, KS, where Boot Hill is.
It’s ironic. I grew up in Wyoming, but I’ve never been to Yellowstone.
Yea, it’s pretty cool. I’d never heard of the Riverwalk, but wow.
southpaw:
That’s incredible! Did you grew up in Laramie? I mean it’s on the opposite side of the state from Yellowstone.
I’m driving from Wisconsin thru Iowa, S.D. then Wyoming, then dropping down to Ft.Collins and finally Denver this summer.
Yahoooooooooooooooo!!!
gus:
Happy trails!
Yup, Laramie, where time stands still.
southpaw:
Never been to SE WY. Is it worth my time visiting Laramie?
Try this and hear how entertaining:

The badlands in South Dakota are not to be missed!!! And be sure to visit the Corn Palace and Wall Drug! Where the heck is Wall Drug?
Googlebing it.On February 17th, 2012 at 5:30 pm,
Ugliest drive…Going north through Nebraska.
The drive up on the North Shore of Minnesota is amazing!! Especially in the Fall.
Also, Lake Superior in winter is majestic. The waves crash up on the shore, then freeze in motion. Quite a phenomena. We were in a rented condo one winter and one night we heard this plaintive crying and moaning out on the lake. It went on for a very long time. We were told it was probably a moose who fell into the water. The ice on Lake Superior moves and changes, leaving spaces of open water. The animals “think” it’s safe and fall in. Sad.
southpaw:
Thanks for the info. If we drive by Laramie, I’ll make sure to make a stop at both places.
Even the birds fly upside down in Nebraska. They can’t find a place to use the bathroom either
happyscrapper:
Just checked Drug Wall and The Corn Palace on Google Maps. They’re between Rapid City and Sioux Falls, right on I-90. I never made it past Ellsworth AFB. No wonder I didn’t see them. Thanks for the info.
Not at 95.
Meaning that this will slowly percolate until after she retires, at which time the remaining members will quietly bury the whole matter out of sight of the public watchdogs.
Just say you have had an epiphany, you are now converting to the D’s because you have seen their wisdom, mouth the right words and you’re in.
So, everything south of 665 is gone? Vanished? Figures.
Any college kid that goes to Mexico at spring break does not belong in college. Way too dumb to be a college student. Unless it is one of those diploma mills.
House Ethics Committee.
Stop it.
You’re cracking me up.
2nd longest drive in America:
Ellensburg to Spokane on I-90
South Padre Island!!
Myrtle Beach!!
Cocoa Beach!!
Am I the only one who thinks of Onion commentator “Nancy Fichandler” every time Maxine Waters makes the news?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JnX-D4kkPOQ
Both are staunch defenders of the money hole…
What’s happening with her case.
Being buried.
Like the taxpayers and non-cronies – in debt and regulations.
I’m originally from Minot ND, I now live in Rapid City SD for the past 20yrs. Just to let everyone know, The Geographical Center of N. America is in Rugby N. Dakota.Michelle made the drive through the Black Hills a couple yrs. ago, Mnt. Rushmore, Keystone,Sturgis and Deadwood… Simply Beautiful!
Worth it to get good bar-b-que though, isn’t it?
I-95 every State. Especially when the Snowbirds are migrating.
Also I-16 Macon Savannah. You could read War and Peace while you drive. Boring.
Redneck Riviera
WaterBoyz:
Daytona Beach!
South Beach!
McCloud9:
You might be correct, but the geographical center of theU.S.A. is in Belle Fourche, SD. About 10 miles north of I-90, west of Sturgis, just before crossing into WY.
“Ethics? Ethics?? I’m the SWAMP Queen, don’t need no stinkin ethics!?!”
Alternative Best Drive in USA:
Saddle Road, between Hilo and Kailua-Kona.
Catch feeding time at a lion house sometime. If you liked one cat, imagine what a ruckus throwing raw bloody steaks to a dozen provokes (kinda like this blog, come to think)! I recall it was a regular childhood attraction at the San Francisco Zoo, at least back before the entire City went to the feral pussies.
That picture of Maxine Waters looks like she was just sucking on a lemon. But then, she always looks like that. A more bitter, nasty regressive you will never find!! Must suck to be her (pun intended), and I thank God I’m not!!
I’d love to snatch that wig off snaggle-tooths head. If ugly was music, she would be the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.
Term Limits NOW!
By single term limiting these ‘public servants,’ we will never again see these people spending all their time and money running for reelection. One term and they are finished – this was the vision of the Founders.
When John McCain (R-AZ) took his remaining $21.5 million presidential campaign funds along with donations from his addlepated followers (private, corporate and RNC) and wife, Ms. ‘Budweiser of AZ,’ and began his slanderous campaign on radio, television and print against the couple of million dollars raised by JD Hayworth, I wanted to vomit.
Part of McCain’s reelection diatribe focused on ‘buildin’ that damn fence.’ This long-running and self-serving turd doesn’t give a crap about the American people. If you don’t believe this to be the truth then just ask any veteran.
Term Limits NOW!
Don’t climb Vedawoo on a windy day. In WY that’s often. The extremely outgoing Mr. Happy grew up there too. Go Cowboys.
As for Maxine, they are just foot dragging until the election is over, at least. Ethics challenges during election years weaken the party.
