Carney: Obama Didn’t Deny Keystone Permit

By Doug Powers  •  February 21, 2012 04:45 PM

**Written by Doug Powers

President Obama said the same thing back when the administration denied the pipeline permit the Republicans’ killed the Keystone project because of their political games.

Transcript from Real Clear Politics:

Carney: “In terms of Keystone, as you all know, the history here is pretty clear. And the fact is because Republicans decided to play political with Keystone, their action essentially forced the administration to deny the permit process because they insisted on a time frame in which it was impossible to completely approve the pipeline,” Carney said when asked about the pipeline by ABC News’ Jake Tapper.

Later in the briefing, Carney says it is the Republicans’ fault.

Jake Tapper: “How can you say that you have an all the above on approach if the President turned down the Keystone pipeline? And you blame the Republicans for making it political.”

Carney: “But the President didn’t turn down the Keystone pipeline. There was a process in place, with long precedent, run out of the State Department because of the issue of the pipeline crossing an international boundary, that required an amount of time for proper for review after an alternate route was deemed necessary through Nebraska at the request of the Republican Governor of Nebraska and other stakeholders in Nebraska and the region that needed to play out, to be done appropriately. You can’t review and approve a pipeline, the route for which doesn’t even exist.

It’s amazing what excuses they can come up with for things they don’t want, and what justifications can be created for expediting things they do want.

President Obama spent several weeks offering desperately pleas of “we can’t wait” on job creation, so the Republicans took him up on it, and the reply from the White House was “you can’t rush it!”

If the White House had been told the pipeline was going to be used to funnel solar panels from Solyndra to Shangri La, the thing would have been constructed post-haste — time-constraints, cost, and the opinion of officials in the Midwest be damned.

Funny how Carney has to pretend the administration didn’t deny the pipeline because of denied for political reasons.

So what Carney is saying is Obama was pouting that someone actually dared to give him a timeline to make a decision. Carney claims there was not enough time, but from what I have seen they had already completed a 3 year review and were awaiting a yay or nay decision on it.

TransCanada announced it will re-apply to the U.S. Department of State (DOS) for a Presidential Permit. TransCanada expects that the findings of an exhaustive, three-year environmental review process already completed by the DOS will be taken into account as part of the new application process.

    How Øbama Makes Decisions

There is a cliché in Washington. There are two things you do not want to see made: sausage and laws. To those we may add a third: Barack Obama’s decisions.

Americans were warned by his opponents that Barack Obama was unprepared to be president. He had very little record to run on, and his one experience at being an executive was a failure — his hushed up history running and running through a hundred million dollars as the head of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge in Chicago. He had a record of avoiding tough decisions (the “voting present” issue); he was just a celebrity who was not ready for the 3 A.M. phone call. The presidency was not an “on the job” training program.

After three years we can judge those fears to be well-warranted.

There are many people who have problems with his policies. Barrels of ink and billions of pixels have been used to criticize his agenda. But surprisingly little analysis has gone into figuring out the mystery of how Obama actually goes about making decisions.

Fortunately, over the last few years journalists have been obsessing over Barack Obama almost as much as he has been obsessing over himself. They have provided various vignettes that give us a disturbing picture of a man floundering in his own careless if not willful ineptitude.

Americans should have been alert to the paucity of his own record of accomplishment. (Some of us were.) As a state senator he showed little interest in learning the intricacies of legislation. Instead, his political mentor, Illinois State Senate President Emil Jones, allowed him to “bill-jack” the legislative work of others and claim it as his own. This was a practice he continued as a U.S. senator. He was unprepared to do the homework and heavy lifting — that was for others to toil over.

If there is one constant to Barack Obama’s life, it is his lack of a work ethic. I never doubted that the Barack Obama had stellar grades in college and law school. He surfed the wave of grade inflation that has probably always been a factor in his success. This is pure speculation, but the reason why he never released his transcripts was probably because they would have revealed that he took easy left-wing courses that would have reflected poorly on his work ethic. The laziness has persisted.

A leader has to be well-informed, consult with good advisers and experts, read and research, and make a decision. He has to prepare himself to be a leader.

We saw signs during the campaign that he had little interest in the issues of the day. The late Dean Barnett wrote in the Weekly Standard in a column titled “How Smart is Obama”:

I am betting that by December of this year, Jake Tapper will walk up to the podium where Carney is speaking. Tapper will grab him by the lapels, then b!tchslap Carney into next Tuesday.

The rest of the media will be stunned. They would have just witnessed the birth of a new American hero.

Carney, for his part, will cry like a little girl.

That’s the message that the Bridge to Nowhere Tea Party posted on Saturday in Colorado to protest Obama’s denial of the permit for Republican efforts to stop the Keystone XL project.

Check out the story at the Pundit Pete Press Service, including Citizen Pete’s rant and the lefty CSU guy’s response.

I do not care if I give wonderful, aesthetically elegant speeches, or speak so that women cry. The point of a political speech is to persuade people of what we think right. I speak differently in the provinces than I do in Berlin, and when I speak in Bayreuth, I say different things than I say in the Pharus Hall. That is a matter of practice, not of theory. We do not want to be a movement of a few straw brains, but rather a movement that can conquer the broad masses. Propaganda should be popular, not intellectually pleasing. It is not the task of propaganda to discover intellectual truths.”

There is some solar project that is/was being built in California on BLM land using energy/Urkel vote buying bucks that is going belly up because of some distempered rat or squirrel or something.

I wonder what the timeline comparison is between the two is.

I was shocked the enviro-wackos and tree-huggers rolled over so fast to allow it.”

The project is being built outside of Blythe, California, which is where I live. The problems are “distember” in Kit Foxes, which have about a million square miles of habitat to choose from all the way from Mexico to Las Vegas, and the discovery of ancient indian desert intaglios on the work site. An intaglio is a picture on the ground made up of rocks. I believe work has ground to a halt more because of the indian discoveries, which only make sense as they’re building this plant on the shore of a dry lake bed, which was probably once a thriving lake, where plants would grow. There are famous intaglios just up the Colorado River to the north of Blythe too, and these are Federally-protected lands also.

What is most humorous is that the design of the facility could probably be altered to skirt over the top of the intaglios, thus preventing further wear due to the blockage of the sun/weather effects. I bet they could even set up a thriving tourist attraction on the site, drawing visitors to both the solar plant and the intaglios! If they’d just continue to build it.

Bullspit. Elect me President. By February 2013, the Keystone Pipeline will be approved. Probably sooner. Here’s a transcript of the approval process:

“By executive order, all departments of the executive branch shall do whatever is necessary and in their power to assist in the immediate commencement of construction of the Keystone pipeline. All permits and approvals, past, present and pending, are hereby determined by the Chief Executive to have been met fully and completely. Any employee of the executive branch who shall in any way obstruct the immediate construction of this pipeline will be charged with and hanged for treason.”

A man does what needs doing; a bureaucreep worries the process to death.

We do not want to be a movement of a few straw brains, but rather a movement that can conquer the broad masses.

And was that Karl Rove, or Republican pundits once again putting forward their “big tent” theory?

Just remember how that “practice, not theory” worked out for Goebbels:

Goebbels remained with Hitler in Berlin to the end; just hours after Hitler’s suicide, Goebbels and his wife Magda killed their six young children and then committed suicide – Wikipedia
