Gingrich: Obama Should Fire Chu

By Doug Powers  •  March 1, 2012 09:45 PM

Newt Gingrich is obviously calling for President Obama to fire Energy Secretary Steven Chu just for rhetorical effect. Obama and Chu are on the same page as far as energy priorities (or lack thereof) are concerned, so there’s a better chance Michael Moore will ask Domino’s to pink-slip their delivery boy before the pizza arrives at his front door tonight, but at least it’s being pointed out:

Newt Gingrich on Thursday called on President Barack Obama to fire Energy Secretary Steven Chu, citing congressional testimony this week in which Chu said his “overall goal” was to decrease U.S. dependency on oil, not lower the price.

“President Obama must announce today in his Nashua address that he is firing Secretary Chu and replacing him with a pro-American-energy appointment,” said a statement from Gingrich, who cited a POLITICO story about Chu’s appearance before a House Appropriations subcommittee.

I don’t know, Newt… after all, Chu gave himself an A-minus grade on managing taxpayer investments, in spite of billions of dollars that are either teetering on the brink or have already been vaporized in the carbon-neutral money incinerator. Calling for Chu’s firing might cause him to become disgruntled enough to show us how much a C-plus performance costs.

In 2008, Chu said that “we have to figure out how to boost the price of gasoline to the levels in Europe,” so his position here wasn’t surprising. Maybe Chu should even give himself some bonus points for honesty and consistency in order to raise that A-minus grade to an A-plus.

I’ll take advantage of this opportunity to re-propose a new pay structure for DoE officials: Every million dollars of taxpayer money that goes down the low flush crapper on one of their algae-powered flights of fancy should be accompanied by a dock in pay of $10,000 for the year.

Here’s Newt:

no, i did not spell his name wrong, i spelled it in case obama reads this from his teleprompter, so he pronounces it correctly.

Guys like Chu are the reason I’m strongly considering holding my nose and voting for likely nominee Romney in November even though I can’t stand him and normally do not nose-hold (didn’t vote for McCain). Because it’s not just Obama vs. Romney. It’s everyone that comes with Obama. Every czar, every cabinet position (Hillary, Janet Napolitano, Kathleen Sibelius, etc.), every justice nomination (including Supreme Court) which are for LIFE, vice president Biden, Valerie Jarrett, Eric Holder…the list goes on and on and on. It’s not just Obama, but every one of his stinking Progressive cronies that comes with him. If the price we have to pay is a wishy-washy, conservative-when-it-suits-him Romney, it will not be too high a price to clean the enemies of America out.

Chu should have been fired and prosecuted for incompetence starting with the millions pissed away with Solyndra, and every failed green turd ObaMao pushed since then that has failed. Almost all connected to those who gave campaign cash to him.

Yeah, people will feel it paying outrageous gas prices because of these marxists, but billions in tax dollars have been laundered in his green energy scam.

And not a single average American will benefit, although their kids and grandkids will be paying the tab.

And not a single person connected to these scams have been held accountable.

Everyone needs to understand what REALLY drives the $9-10 per gallon cost of fuel in europe. They allow their governments to add ~$6 PER GALLON of TAX to support their social welfare programs. They pay the same price for oil and refined products as we do, only we pay much less (~$0.19 federal and ~$0.45 state) TAX. And it’s not like they have anywhere NEAR the amount of infrastucture that the US has to maintain. With the exception of the UK, all of western europe is in one time zone (we have four). The countries are the size of our states.

For 0zero and his band of America destroyers to get our gas prices to “Europe levels” Mr. chu, you will have to TAX us or TRIPLE the actual cost of the fuel. As oil prices are set in a global market, that means the europeans will then be paying $15-17 per gallon. Good luck with that a**hole!

So, lessee, add, say, $.50/gal to punish those greedy oil companies sticking it to us, and……ta-da! $5.00/gal gas intantly becomes $5.50/gal.

Clue: businesses will pass along additional costs in pricing….especially when little or no real competition exists.

    Liberal non-logic at work.

Technically, at face value, I have no problem with Secretary Chu saying that his goal is to reduce dependence on petroleum, not decrease its cost. That is a true statement. It’s the job of the Energy dept to map out the long-term plan that will shape the future landscape of American energy resources, and reduction of petroleum use is one of those goals. It’s the job of commerce, interior, and probably a handful of random czars to deal with oil prices.

I think that the consolidated way forward needs to be a comprehensive approach that starts with reduction of dependence on foreign oil by shifting us to domestic sources immediately (Dept of State and Dept of Interior, with some Commerce thrown in). It’s a matter of national security as far as I’m concerned. Next we put in place a phased approach to reduce petroleum usage over, say, 20 years, and let the free market start coming up with alternatives (DoE, Commerce, Interior, Transportation).

But like so many big-government flunkies, Chu’s response, in general, smacks of “don’t blame me, that’s another bureaucrat. Go to the next window, please.”

The consequences are fully intentional. They want the USA and all the western nations to go stone broke and in their control, politically and economically.

Revenge on the evil imperialist nations for centuries of exploiting, stealing from and enslaving peoples around the world so we, in the western world, can enjoy a comfortable lifestyle of conspicuous consumption.

Now and in the future, if there is exploiting, stealing from and enslaving people to do, it’ll be our leftist elitist overlords of our glorious utopias to come.
