Forward, Lurch

The other day, the Obama campaign unveiled their new slogan for 2012: “Forward.” Aside from the obvious ties to MSNBC’s promotions department, assorted historical associations as well as reminders of email options, the word normally implies looking and moving ahead. What better way to signal your campaign’s intent to leave the past behind than by giving a major role in your re-election push to a fifth-term Senator and 2004 presidential candidate who lost to the guy you’re still blaming everything on?
From Politico:
Another presidential campaign is in full swing. A fresh set of foreign policy issues is at stake. And once again, John Kerry is reporting for duty.
The Obama campaign is ready to deploy Kerry as a top surrogate on foreign policy and national security this year, a natural task for the 68-year-old Senate Foreign Relations Committee chairman, whom many party strategists see as a nearly perfect foil for presumptive GOP nominee Mitt Romney.
But there may also be another subtext to the latest mission for the 2004 Democratic presidential candidate: His expected campaign role also presents a good opportunity to cement his position as one of the leading candidates to become the next secretary of state in a second Obama administration if Hillary Clinton leaves her post.
Kerry’s advisory role might explain why President Obama is experiencing so many problems when it comes to spiking the ball.
To practice for his audition for Hillary’s Secretary of State gig, Kerry plans to spend part of the summer in training by pretending the bilge pump switch on the Isabel is a re-set button.
