Add Claire McCaskill to the list of Dems skipping the convention

The sock drawer re-arranging is taking priority this year for many vulnerable Democrats, including one high profile Senator.

And then there were (at least) nine:

Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-Mo., one of this cycle’s most vulnerable incumbents, will not attend the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, an aide to the first-term senator confirms to Hotline On Call.
McCaskill is running in a state that President Obama is likely to lose. But she has not shied away from asking the president for support. So her decision to skip Charlotte is particularly notable.

McCaskill joins a growing list of Democrats who won’t be in Charlotte, including Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., West Virginia Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin, and Rep. Nick Rahall, D-W.Va., Sen. Jon Tester, D-Mont., Mark Critz, D-Pa., Kathy Hochul, D-N.Y., Bill Owens, D-N.Y., and Jim Matheson, D-Utah.

McCaskill had her heart set on visiting the Charlotte Motor Speedway on Labor Day and now that dream has been dashed — there’s just no point in going now.

An Air Claire aide said that historically McCaskill has not attended the convention in years she’s been on a ballot. This is the first national party convention since McCaskill’s been a US Senator and Obama backer (in non election years anyway). She apparently didn’t attend the 2004 Democratic Convention when she was running for Missouri governor, but ended up losing that election. Consider a different approach this time around and hope for a karmic shift? Not on your life!
