The very network on which David Axelrod was appearing yesterday debunked the claim days before, but that didn’t stop him from moving Forward undaunted with the “what ifs”:

On CNN’s State of the Union today, Candy Crowley grilled Obama campaign advisor David Axelrod over a comment made by a staffer that either Romney lied to the American people about his time at Bain Capital or he lied on SEC filings, which would be a felony. Axelrod carefully parsed his explanation, saying that the campaign would never accuse Romney of being a felon, just potentially engaging in activity that would be considered a felony.

Axelrod insisted that all Stephanie Cutter meant was “If he was, in fact, not the chief executive, the president, the sole shareholder at the company at the time, and that’s what was filed, that would be a felony.”

And if Romney had also gone into a bank and pulled a gun instead of handing the teller a withdraw slip, that too would have been a felony. America can’t afford to put a man with this kind of hypothetical criminal background in the White House!

Update: Debbie Downer doubles down too.
