Axelrod: Romney and right-leaning Super PACs to blame for perception Obama campaign has gone negative

A recent poll found that, between Romney and Obama, more Americans believe Obama is the one running the more negative campaign. This morning David Axelrod blamed this perception on Romney and GOP Super PACs:
Senior Obama campaign adviser David Axelrod accused the GOP of running ads that helped convince people that President Obama is running a more negative campaign than Mitt Romney.
He maintained on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” on Tuesday that that’s why a recent NBC/WSJ poll showed that Americans almost by a 2-to-1 margin think the Obama campaign is more negative.
“Partly Joe [Scarborough], that’s because the Romney campaign and their friends in the super PAC world have just spent tens and tens of millions of dollars specifically on spots accusing Obama of running a negative campaign,” Axelrod said. “So I’m not surprised to see those numbers.”
He did go on to acknowledge that Team Obama’s own ads may have played a role, but he said that’s just part of politics.
Public perception that Obama’s campaign is more negative? The Obama campaign didn’t build that!
