Dick Cheney: Choice of Palin was a mistake

For most of the morning I was offline (which is my tech terminology for “mowing the lawn”), but as soon as I got back on the computer the first story I saw was “Cheney: Picking Palin for VP a mistake.” At first I thought I missed a big story — had Romney chosen a veep already and decided to go with Sarah? Nah — it was concerning ABC previewing an interview with Dick Cheney and jumping all over his comments about Sarah Palin:
Dick Cheney has some advice for Mitt Romney on choosing a running mate: Don’t pick another Sarah Palin.
In his first interview since receiving a heart transplant in March, Cheney told ABC News, that John McCain’s decision to pick Palin as his running mate in 2008 was “a mistake” — one that it is important from Romney not to repeat.
[...]
Cheney would not comment on what he told Romney and Myers, but he was harsh in his assessment of McCain’s decision to pick Palin.“That one,” Cheney said, “I don’t think was well handled.”
“The test to get on that small list has to be, ‘Is this person capable of being president of the United States?’”
Cheney believes Sarah Palin failed that test.
“I like Governor Palin. I’ve met her. I know her. She – attractive candidate. But based on her background, she’d only been governor for, what, two years. I don’t think she passed that test…of being ready to take over. And I think that was a mistake.”
If there was a mistake in 2008, it was the nominee, not the running mate.
The MSM will be chewing on this one all week, eager to go back to 2008 again and never return. “Imagine how lousy things could have been if voters had put Sarah Palin in the VP’s office — even Darth Vader agrees!” But when the dust settles, here we are, stuck in the reality of 2012 in a foundering economy Sarah Palin had nothing to do with designing that is perpetuated by people the majority of voters believed passed the “test” for government leadership.
According to the ABC interviewer in the video below, Cheney had some of his “harshest criticism yet” for President Obama — but it looks like that wasn’t worth sampling today:
Guess I’ll go scrape the Palin/Cheney 2012 sticker off the ol’ bumper.
