I’m told that in the first debate practice Olson threw in a gaffe every 45 seconds and the word “literally” every half minute, but Team Romney has asked him to ramp it up a notch for future rehearsals:

Attorney Ted Olson, who was solicitor general for President George W. Bush, is playing the part of Vice President Joe Biden in Republican vice presidential nominee Paul Ryan’s debate preparation, the Romney campaign announced Saturday.

Olson has extensive experience both in and out of government. He served as the assistant attorney general in the Office of Legal Counsel for President Reagan, and acted as private counsel for both Reagan and George W. Bush. He has argued 58 cases before the Supreme Court, three quarters of which have been decided in his favor. His third wife, Barbara, was killed in the 9/11 attacks; she was a passenger on the plane that flew into the Pentagon.

Time Magazine named Olson one of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2010.

Meanwhile, Biden fans lined up by the thousands for free tickets to today’s event in Iowa. Wait, did I say thousands? I meant dozens:

About 25 people gathered around the entrance to the Port of Burlington building Saturday morning, patiently waiting to grab a free ticket to see Vice President Joe Biden speak in the same building Monday afternoon.

Tickets also were handed out at the Organizing for America offices in Fort Madison and Keokuk, and more than 20 people gathered at the OFA office in Burlington to get their tickets at the same time. Campaign officials could not divulge how many tickets were given away Saturday or how many tickets are remaining.

The wait wasn’t very long at either location, but two hard-core Democrats arrived at the Port of Burlington more than an hour ahead of the distribution time. Tickets were handed out at 10 a.m., and Richard Lemke, 31, of Burlington arrived at the port building at 8:30 a.m.

“I thought there would be more people,” he said.
