Note: The following endorsement is Al Gore approved
New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg has announced a preference between Mitt Romney and Barack Obama. There were two major issues Bloomberg was looking for in choosing the man who should lead the country for the next four years: 1) Which candidate has a plan that will once and for all end American’s dependence on sugared sodas larger than 16 ounces; and 2) Who will best address climate change that probably caused Superstorm Sandy, but then again, maybe not:
New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg (I) endorsed President Obama for reelection on Thursday, citing his stance on climate change.
“Our climate is changing. And while the increase in extreme weather we have experienced in New York City and around the world may or may not be the result of it, the risk that it might be — given this week’s devastation — should compel all elected leaders to take immediate action,” Bloomberg wrote in his endorsement, which was published on Bloomberg News’s website under the title “A Vote for a President to Lead on Climate Change.”
The announcement, which hit five days before the election, came as a surprise. Bloomberg has been critical of both Obama and GOP nominee Mitt Romney, telling the New York Times a few weeks ago of both men: “Their economic plans are not real.”
And ABC News rejoiced.
Bloomberg is encouraging the world to sink trillions of dollars into taking action to stave off something he’s not even completely convinced is the problem? The perfect politician.
In his endorsement, SUV air conditioning pioneer Bloomberg emphasized the importance of all of us cutting our carbon footprints. At last check, Bloomberg owns 11 homes, from New York to London to Vail to Bermuda. And he shuttles to and from them in his private jet(s). You first, Mr. Mayor… you first.
Update: Under the circumstances I’m thinking Obama wishing Bloomberg would have kept that endorsement to himself.
