A little bit about the “We the People” section of the White House’s website:

The right to petition your government is guaranteed by the First Amendment of the United States Constitution. We the People provides a new way to petition the Obama Administration to take action on a range of important issues facing our country. We created We the People because we want to hear from you. If a petition gets enough support, White House staff will review it, ensure it’s sent to the appropriate policy experts, and issue an official response.

They say that any petition receiving 25,000 or more signatures within 30 days will be reviewed and possibly commented on. With that said, a petition calling for the peaceful secession of Texas has now received more than the required amount of signatures:

null

The White House does give itself an out as far as avoiding having to comment on petitions that otherwise met the requirements for a response, and I’m thinking they’ll take a pass on this one.

If they do comment though, what will it be? I’ll go out on a limb and predict the White House response would have something to do with more clean energy projects, higher taxes on the wealthy for a stronger middle class and the need to build more roads and bridges.

Update: Counter-petition: Strip citizenship from every person who signs a petition to secede and exile them.
