Benghazi timeline gets even more confusing; Updated

At his first full press conference in quite a while, President Obama today said he was the person who sent out Susan Rice to talk about Benghazi a few days after the attack:
“As I said before, she made an appearance at the request of the White House in which she gave her best understanding of the intelligence that had been provided to her,” Obama said at the press conference, defending the statements the ambassador to the U.N. made regarding the Benghazi attack.
Rice has been widely criticized for giving misleading statements about Benghazi. She maintained that the killing of four Americans stemmed for a spontaneous protest that got violent.
This is confusing. At the CNN presidential debate, Obama and his devoted teammate Candy Crowley insisted that the president referred specifically to the US consulate attack as an “act of terror” the day after Benghazi (we know that’s not the case, but this is still the administration’s argument so we must hold them to it). Susan Rice’s “it was the video that made them do it” interview was four days after the Benghazi attack.
I couldn’t catch today’s press conference, but I’m guessing there were no pointed follow-up questions related to this little discrepancy.

Update:
Charles Krauthammer asks a good question: If Susan Rice had nothing to do with Benghazi on any level — as Obama said during Wednesday’s press conference — why would he have chosen her to address that very subject with the media? (video via Weasel Zippers):
