On January 8th, the New York Times ran a photo taken in late December showing President Obama meeting in the Oval Office with ten top advisers — all male:

The photo accompanied an article entitled “Obama’s Remade Inner Circle Has an All-Male Look, So Far.” Also mentioned were an all-male batch of nominees, John Kerry, Chuck Hagel and John Brennan.

That story caught the eye of the White House. Daniel Halper at The Weekly Standard noticed that 24 hours later the White House photo of the day featured another Oval Office picture of Obama with some advisers, except this time three of them were women:

The White House’s Rapid Diversification Team makes Jimmie Johnson’s pit crew look lethargic.

Previously, Nancy Pelosi had called the White House and suggested a way that has worked for her in the past to add even more women to that picture, but Team Obama decided not to run with her idea because it would have been too obvious:

Charles Rangel said the lack of diversity in Obama’s Cabinet is “embarrassing as hell” (which is saying something, because Rangel is not easy to embarrass).

We now return you to your regularly scheduled Republican War on Women™.
