'Let's MOO-ve': The inaugural lunch menu

If you were wondering, this was the menu at the inaugural lunch today:

Turkey (1 oz) and low-fat cheese (0.5 oz) sandwich on whole wheat bread
Refried beans (1/2 cup)
Jicama (1/4 cup)
Green pepper strips (1/4 cup)
Cantaloupe wedges (1/2 cup)
Skim milk (8 oz)
Mustard (9 grams)
Reduced fat mayonnaise (1 oz)
Low-fat ranch drip (1 oz)

Hold on… I’m sorry. That was a school lunch menu from the beginning of the school year after the changes championed by Michelle Obama were implemented to combat obesity.

Here’s what some of the people who called for and instituted those menu changes had for lunch today:

First Course: Steamed Lobster with New England Clam Chowder Sauce

Third Course: Hudson Valley Apple Pie with Sour Cream Ice Cream, Aged Cheese and Honey

Total Nutritional Counts (not including wine pairing): Calories 3027, Fat 145 g, Saturated Fat 71g (49% of fat), Sodium 9752 mg, Total Carbs 312.5g, Sugar 186.2g (59% of carbs)

I felt like I was turning into Mr. Creosote just reading that, but at least the “for the children” crowd is living up to the billing by selflessly devouring all those calories, fats and sugars so our kids don’t have to.
