Preschool on break this week re-opens for Obama visit

Among the many programs President Obama called for during his State of the Union speech Tuesday night (spending proposals that “won’t increase the deficit” ::pause for laughter::) were more “investments” in early education. To push these proposals, a presidential speech at the College Heights Early Childhood Learning Center in Decatur, Georgia was scheduled today.
The glitch? The facility was on a scheduled break this week. But that’s not an issue if you’re President Obama.
From Keith Koffler:
In an apparent planning snafu, President Obama today will visit an early learning school in Decatur, Georgia that happens to be in recess this week.
But no problem: According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, staff and bus drivers will be summoned back to work for the day to accomodate Obama’s appearance.
College Heights Early Childhood Learning Center Principle Suzanne Kennedy alerted parents that the staff will interrupt their vacations for the “amazing opportunity” for students to “expand their worlds” by seeing the president.
Below are more details about what Obama outlined today. Does this sound like it won’t add to the deficit?
President Barack Obama will announce a plan Thursday to partner with states to pay for preschool for every four-year-old in a low- or moderate-income family.
The plan fills out details from Obama’s State of the Union address on Tuesday, when he said the United States needed to “make sure none of our children start the race of life already behind.”
The administration’s plan would use federal money to pay for preschool for families making up to twice the federal poverty level, and would give states incentives to provide more public pre-school spots for middle-income families, and to provide full-day kindergarten.
So at least in part this sounds like “Obamadaycare.” Great. But don’t worry, preschoolers, because “if you like your woobie, you can keep your woobie.”
