Some are expressing shock at this news because they thought David Axelrod already was directing NBC’s political coverage. At least now the relationship is official:
NBC News announced Tuesday that it had hired David Axelrod, the chief political strategist for both of Barack Obama’s presidential elections, as a full-time political analyst for the news organization.
He will appear on news programs for NBC’s broadcast network and for its cable news channel MSNBC. That channel has positioned itself aggressively as the liberal counterpart to the conservative-leaning Fox News Channel.
Mr. Axelrod’s hiring at MSNBC emulates Fox’s hiring of Karl Rove, who filled the similar political post for George W. Bush.
In other “straight from the administration to the MSM” news, the Washington Post has hired one of the three Hilary Rosens that Jay Carney knows. I assume it’s the one who is the Democratic adviser who said Ann Romney never worked a day in her life.
Slightly off-topic but still worth it if you need an afternoon laugh, Axelrod’s new colleague at NBC, Chuck Todd, said this morning that it’s “mythology” that the MSM has an anti-conservative bias.
