Dept. of Homeland Security cancels bagpipe purchase order — wait, what?

If Janet Napolitano’s plan was to line the border with bagpipers in order to keep people from wanting to cross (not unlike Prussia’s short-lived 1914 border control experiment with an “accordion fence”), all I can say is this: “Brilliant!” It would be like a Maginot Line that plays Scotland the Brave.

It was too much to hope for, though, because the order has been canceled:


It’s possible they were looking for equipment replacements for the US Coast Guard Pipe Band, but most likely the administration was simply covering their bases in case they have to host a funeral for the economy before too long but realized the sequester wasn’t the best time to be soliciting bids for horsehair sporrans and Tam O’Shanters.
