Tom Brokaw on skipping White House Correspondents Dinner: Event has become cheap and undignified ever since Lindsay Lohan stole all our attention last year

Let’s see — a night where many politicians who are running the country into the ground yuck it up with a bunch of their enablers in the press, and the biggest problem with it is that the fully loaded star of Herbie Fully Loaded showed up last year? Whatever. But it was enough to turn off Tom Brokaw:

It’s all Lindsay Lohan’s fault.

Apparently, she ruined the White House Correspondents’ Dinner for everyone. Or, at least, Tom Brokaw.

The annual star-studded event is set to take place this weekend in Washington, D.C., but the veteran TV newsman won’t be there because of a certain guest who was in attendance at last year’s gala.

“The breaking point for me was Lindsay Lohan,” Brokaw told Politico during a recent interview. “She became a big star at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. Give me a break.”

Sounds like somebody stole some of the attention.

This isn’t the first we’ve heard of the “Nightly News” host’s frustrations with the event. Just one week after the 2012 bash, he appeared on “Meet the Press” urging planners to “rethink” it, explaining that it “separates the press from the people that they’re supposed to serve, symbolically.”

Oh, I get it now — Lohan must have been seated between the MSM and Obama, hence Brokaw’s displeasure over the unnecessary buffer.

For the first time, the E! Network will cover celebrity arrivals at the WHCD. I can’t wait for Ryan Seacrest to ask TOTUS, “who are you wearing?”

Meanwhile, CNN analyzes what effect recent tragedies may have on President Obama’s ability to tell jokes at the dinner.
