Dueling headlines — ‘Is is hot in here or is Al Gore crazy?’ edition

In September of last year, Al Gore wrote the following warning in a headline on his blog, in reference to the “hottest spring on record” followed by the “hottest summer on record”:

If you thought 2012 was hot, just wait until 2013

Gore also blamed last year’s heat wave at least in part on “extraordinarily high melting” of sea ice. Melting sea ice causes heatwaves? Ok, got it (remember that for later).

The year is young, but so far here are some recent headlines to duel with Al’s prediction of a 2013 global blast furnace:

*****
Second Coldest Start to Spring in U.S. History

It’s official: This the coldest spring in Saskatchewan in 113 years

Coldest UK Spring in 50 Years

Germany: Coldest Spring on Record
*****

Remember when Gore blamed the higher than normal spring and summer temps in 2012 at least in part on loss of sea ice? Well, that brings us to our final headline, which will undoubtedly be Gore’s eventual explanation for the extremely cold 2013 spring:

Scientists Link Cold Spring to Dramatic Sea Ice Loss

Well what do you know? No matter what happens, they’re proven correct.

But if things don’t start to heat up soon, before too long we’ll see this Onion story come to real life — if it hasn’t already.
