Hand-in-hand headlines: NSA, schools and the Internet

At first I was going to do this as one of our semi-regular “dueling headlines” features, but in order for headlines to duel they need to be at least somewhat contradictory. In this case, the headlines go more hand in hand. The first is from the Washington Post and appeared yesterday:

Accompanying that is a headline from the CBS News, also from yesterday:

Data mining isn’t as effective unless everybody’s plugged into the network.

By the way, as a Senator, Barack Obama sponsored a bill that would have subsequently prevented himself as president from pursuing this program. Meanwhile, yesterday, Harry Reid basically said “What’s everybody freaking out about? We’ve been invading your privacy for years!

    To be fair, most of these tactics started under the Bush Administration with the passage of the Patriot Act. What is alarming is that the Obama Admininistration is more sinister in its usage of information and is using it to target political opposition.

    Check out mother jones. Says fisa court ruled one of programs unconstitutional in 2011. Holder hasn’t released the decision. Just reported tonight.
