President Obama is giving a global warming address today, where he’s expected to announce another side-stepping of Congress and lay out “a national plan to reduce carbon pollution, prepare our country for the impacts of climate change and lead global efforts to fight it.” Whatever Obama’s specific plan is to curb global warming, it started working 15 years ago. Yes, he’s that good.

According to one White House climate adviser, a “war on coal” is where Obama should start:

Daniel P. Schrag, a geochemist who is the head of Harvard University’s Center for the Environment and a member of a presidential science panel that has helped advise the White House on climate change, said he hoped the presidential speech would mark a turning point in the national debate on climate change.

“Everybody is waiting for action,” he said. “The one thing the president really needs to do now is to begin the process of shutting down the conventional coal plants. Politically, the White House is hesitant to say they’re having a war on coal. On the other hand, a war on coal is exactly what’s needed.”

Schrag is just trying to help Obama fulfill some of the original campaign promises.

Meanwhile, there’s this from a climate scientist: If the warming hiatus goes on five more years, climate models will have been disproven. But let’s mold our entire energy strategy around the claims of global warming alarmists just in case.
