KTVU has apologized profusely, but nothing’s really going to make this one go away.

The Oakland, California station reported that there were four pilots on the Asiana Airlines flight that crashed at San Francisco International. Here are the names they aired:

null

Here’s the KTVU anchor writing, signing and stamping her one-way ticket to the Ron Burgundy Hall of Fame:

Bonus points: KTVU claims the NTSB confirmed those names, though I’m guessing the “officials” the station spoke to in D.C. were named Hugh Jass and Pat McGroin.

Update: The NTSB has a summer intern who was either in on a joke, or really, really oblivious:

The National Transportation Safety Board apologizes for inaccurate and offensive names that were mistakenly confirmed as those of the pilots of Asiana flight 214, which crashed at San Francisco International Airport on July 6.

Earlier today, in response to an inquiry from a media outlet, a summer intern acted outside the scope of his authority when he erroneously confirmed the names of the flight crew on the aircraft.
