I know that the cardinal rule is that if somebody from the Obama administration puts the word “fact” in all caps it means you’re supposed to automatically believe whatever is said, but a reader emailed about a White House tweet that begged for further verification:

One of the companies the White House claims was started by immigrants was Intel.

According to the historical timeline on Intel’s website, the company was founded by Gordon Moore and Robert Noyce:

null

Noyce and Moore were immigrants who were born in foreign countries called “Iowa” and “California,” but that must have been before Congress granted blanket amnesty to Dubuque and Sacramento.

From Noyce’s biography:

Robert Noyce was born on December 12 1927 in Burlington, Iowa. He died on June 3 1990 in Austin, Texas.

From Moore’s biography:

Gordon Moore earned a bachelor’s in chemistry from the University of California at Berkeley in 1950 and a Ph.D. in chemistry and physics from the California Institute of Technology in 1954. He was born in San Francisco on Jan. 3, 1929.

California and Iowa were both part of the 57 U.S. states back then, weren’t they?
