For a possible strike on Syria, Organizing for Action isn’t helping Obama organize that action

You know a military strike on Syria is a tough sell when Barack Obama can’t even convince @BarackObama to help organize that action:

Barack Obama’s supporters built a political organization to pressure Congress to build public support for him. Yet on one of his biggest efforts since Organizing for Action re-launched early this year — the push to convince Congress to adopt a use-of-force authorization against Syria — the group has so far sat on the sidelines.

OFA’s silence has been palpable. It didn’t send one of its ubiquitous emails to supporters and volunteers, nor did it signal to top donors how it might help press Obama’s case on Syria — or even whether it would participate in the president’s push at all.

OFA’s commitment to President Obama on Syria summed up in audio form:

John Kerry, Debbie Wasserman Schultz and others have tried to convince everybody there are dozens of other countries who are allied with the Obama administration for strikes on Syria (without even naming any) but the domestic organization that has peddled all things Obama for years — the test tube from which emerged Hope & Change™ — won’t even commit to the cause?

Here’s where the voting on the resolution authorizing an attack stands in Congress:

According to CNN, there are 18 “no” votes in the Senate and 24 “yes.” Fifty-eight senators — almost the same number of votes needed to overcome any filibuster — remain undecided.
[…]
Three Republicans — Sen. John McCain of Arizona, Sen. Jeff Flake of Arizona and Sen. Bob Corker of Tennessee — voted in favor of taking action.

And that’s where the good news ends for the White House.

Obama needs at least 217 votes in the House to secure his resolution. In that chamber, there are nearly four “no” votes for every “yes” at the moment.

According to CNN’s count, 109 members plan to vote “no,” while 23 — including a number of high profile Republicans — plan to back it.

Not that it matters, because Obama has said he has the right to strike without congressional approval, even though Obama v.2007 disagrees vehemently.
