Remember the State Department scapegoats who were “fired” over Benghazi but later re-hired by John Kerry while subsequently nobody else was held accountable with the possible exception of a guy who made a YouTube video? The “accountability” joke continues, this time at the IRS.
Lois Lerner, who has already been on paid leave for months, will reportedly be allowed to retire with full benefits even though a review board recommended her firing:
Lois Lerner, the IRS official who presided over a partisan program that targeted conservative organizations because of their political beliefs, will retire on Monday with a full pension package, a source at the Department of Treasury told MailOnline.
Lerner, 62, has been a federal government employee since at least 1981, making her eligible for the most robust retirement package the federal government offers career employees.
In May Lerner herself launched the scandal that would eventually claim her job, by answering a planted question about how the IRS handled politically oriented groups that applied for tax-exempt status.
Let this serve as a reminder to other public officials: If you abuse your position and refuse to answer questions about it, you will retire early and comfortably.
Need a laugh? Try this:
Rep. Sander M. Levin of Michigan, the ranking Democrat on the HouseWays and Means Committee, said an accountability review board set up to investigate the people at the agency involved with the scandal completed their review and were set to recommend Ms. Lerner’s ouster. The review board, though, found no evidence of political bias, he said.
No evidence of political bias? Wait, so she (and whoever else) just did it for fun, and for no particular reason? Anybody who believes that also thinks “Recovery Summer” brought the economy roaring back.
So, it is that easy? Government officials can just plead the Fifth and then walk away to live a quiet life paid for by some of the very people they’re accused of targeting?
Has any “accountability review board” in the last few years ever actually held anybody accountable for anything?
