Dueling Headlines; ‘Every worker should be paid a living wage’ edition

Hypocrisy aplenty here, so let’s get right to it.

Our first headline is from Organizing for Action’s BarackObama.com:

Add to that these OFA tweets:

In short: “Living wage for all workers!”

Today’s dueling headline comes from the Daily Caller:

Well, of course.

From the OFA listing:

OFA is now accepting applications for full-time and part-time HQ Interns for the Spring 2014 and Summer 2014 HQ Internship Programs in Chicago, IL. HQ Interns will have the unique opportunity to work closely with staff in advancing the President’s agenda [ironically including raising the minimum wage to $10 an hour - DP]. Departmental placements available include Grassroots Organizing, Training, Issue Campaigns, Digital, Press and Finance. Please include your departmental placement preferences in your cover letter. Accepted HQ Interns will be paired with departments based on their stated interest, qualifications and availability. This is a 14-week, unpaid internship program.

OFA is currently seeking 2014 “spring fellows.” This is from a 2013 “spring fellow” OFA email:

Fellows will work long hours, and these positions are unpaid. But if you’re accepted, you’ll come away with an invaluable set of skills — like recruiting volunteers, working with the media, grassroots fundraising, and using digital tools — and a network of friends and colleagues that will be lifelong assets.

Moral of the story: It’s cruel that people are being paid $9 and hour to help Walmart sell things like TVs and bed sheets, but OFA is “giving something back to the community” for paying people nothing to help Team Obama peddle things like “Recovery Summer” and “if you like your plan you can keep it.”
