There’s been lots of speculation and spin about the “selfie” President Obama took part in at the memorial for Nelson Mandela, but CBS News’ White House correspondent Bill Plante had the funniest.

From Newsbusters (video and more at the link):

All three networks on Wednesday engaged in damage control for the White House following criticism of President Obama’s selfie during Tuesday’s Mandela memorial service. On CBS This Morning, senior White House correspondent Bill Plante even made this absurd assertion: “The President might have caused a diplomatic incident if he had declined the invitation to be in a photo with two long-time allies.”

Learn more from Bill Plante on tonight’s CBS Evening News in a segment called “Obama tactfully averts war with Denmark.” I guess people who don’t think Obama’s done anything to earn that Nobel Peace Prize are feeling pretty stupid about now, eh?
