Sebelius shocker: Health insurance premiums will rise next year

I seem to vaguely recall a promise that Obamacare would “cut the cost of a typical family’s premium by up to $2,500 a year.” My memory must be playing tricks on me, because Obamacare is the law (sometimes), and premiums are still going up:

Premiums will rise in 2015 under ObamaCare, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said on Wednesday.

“I think premiums are likely to go up, but go up at a smaller pace than what we’ve seen since 2010,” Sebelius said in response to a question from Rep. Erik Paulsen (R-Minn.).

“The increases are far less significant than what they were prior to the Affordable Care Act,” she said during testimony to the House Ways and Means Committee.

If the increases are “far less significant” than prior to Obamacare’s partial and selective implementation, it’ll be because people whose existing policies were canceled won’t see premium increases on plans they no longer have. Obamacare has caused a net reduction in the number of insured Americans, and don’t think for one second that this administration doesn’t have the audacity to count that group among those whose premiums have “decreased” thanks to Obamacare. People can’t be hit with premium increases on policies they no longer have — “lower premium” promise kept!
