What a… surprise: Obama administration extends ‘firm deadline’ for enrollment

It seems like only two weeks ago that the HHS said they lacked statutory authority to extend the deadline for Obamacare enrollment. Wait, it was only two weeks ago that they said that. Obama has also stressed the March 31st firm deadline.

They’re going to do anything to put off ever releasing the actual enrollment data:

The Obama administration has decided to give extra time to Americans who say that they are unable to enroll in health-care plans through the federal insurance marketplace by the March 31 deadline.

Federal officials confirmed Tuesday evening that all consumers who have begun to apply for coverage on HealthCare.gov, but who do not finish by Monday, will have until about mid-April to ask for an extension.

How will they know if people began the enrollment process prior to March 31st? Because potential enrollees will put a check mark in the blue box of truth and honor:

Under the new rules, people will be able to qualify for an extension by checking a blue box on HealthCare.gov to indicate that they tried to enroll before the deadline. This method will rely on an honor system; the government will not try to determine whether the person is telling the truth.

Why should the Obama administration care to determine whether a potential enrollee is telling the truth? The Obama administration doesn’t even care if the Obama administration is telling the truth.

Update:

Wonder spin machine powers, activate!

That’s a painfully stupid and ridiculous comparison. In other words, status quo for this bunch.
