By the end of the week, Harry Reid will probably be using this as evidence that the Koch brothers secretly control the FEC.

From Ralston Reports (via Ed Morrissey at Hot Air):

The Federal Election Commission has sent a letter to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s campaign, asking for more information on why he listed an expenditure of more than $11,000 $16,000 in “holiday gifts.”

The gifts, I have learned, were purchased from his granddaughter, Ryan Elisabeth Reid, who is a jewelry vendor in Berkeley, CA. The gifts were later passed on to donors and supporters, a Reid spokeswoman told me.

Later, an update:

Reid will reimburse campaign: “I thought it would be nice to give supporters and staff thank-you gifts that had a personal connection and a Searchlight connection, but I have decided to reimburse the campaign for the amount of the expenditure.”

Nobody can make graft, nepotism and crony capitalism sound like selfless acts of philanthropy like Harry Reid.

So is it that simple? “Oops, my bad — here’s a reimbursement so no harm no foul”? I guess so.

By the way, as mentioned in the report, Reid’s granddaughter is named Ryan Elisabeth Reid, but on the Reid campaign’s expenditure list her last name was accidentally omitted:

Just an honest oversight, I’m sure.

Or, did the Koch brothers set Reid up?
