California Democrat, secretary of state candidate and gun control advocate Leland Yee has been arrested. If he’s convicted, ironically, that could go a long way toward his goal of keeping guns off the streets:
California state Sen. Leland Yee is facing a slew of corruption charges as part of a massive FBI sting operation that surfaced allegations of firearms trafficking, money laundering, murder-for-hire and drug distribution.
A federal complaint unsealed Wednesday accuses the San Francisco Democrat of engaging in a conspiracy to traffic firearms and accepting campaign donations in exchange for official acts. In one instance, Yee, who has been a strong advocate for gun control during his decade in the state Legislature, allegedly offered to set up an undercover agent with an international arms dealer for $5,000, warning that such business dealings are “not for the faint of heart,” according to the complaint.
Yee is free on bond and his lawyer says he’ll plead not guilty.
This story just wouldn’t be complete without the involvement of a guy called “Shrimp Boy”:
Yee and Raymond “Shrimp Boy” Chow, leader of the Chee Kung Tong Free Masons in San Francisco, were among 26 defendants charged in the federal criminal complaint Wednesday, U.S. Attorney Melinda Haag of the Northern District of California said.
A Leland Yee flashback:
“Four weeks after the tragedy in Newtown, like most people, I am still shocked,” said Yee. “Our country has changed forever. While we cannot stop every senseless act of gun violence, the significant rise of mass shootings demonstrates that we must take steps to close the loopholes that currently exist in California. These bills will lower the likelihood of a mass shooting and limit the casualties when such an incident occurs.”
And a little over a year after saying that:
Read some of Yee’s gun control tweets if you really want to overdose on hypocrisy.
