In the Colorado Senate race, incumbent Dem Mark Udall is enduring a hateful ad campaign from his GOP opponent, Cory Gardner:

A new TV ad scheduled to begin this week on Denver stations takes Colorado’s competitive Senate race to a new, very personal, level.

Republican challenger Rep. Cory Gardner appears on camera and calls incumbent Democrat Sen. Mark Udall a “nice guy,” but a career politician who won’t change the Senate.

Now that’s offensive!

But wait, it gets worse: In the Gardner ad, he points out that Udall’s father was once a presidential candidate and two of his cousins are in politics. Beyond the pale! Get a load of this seething contempt for fact avoidance:

Udall was incensed that his opponent cited some information that is readily available on his own website:

Udall himself was appalled by the ad, releasing a statement expressing his disappointment.

“This race should be about who can better represent the great state of Colorado, not personal attacks on our families,” Udall said, “So, to see Congressman Gardner decide to go after my late father and members of my family in a negative ad, that’s just low, no matter what ‘generation’ Congressman Gardner claims to represent. I’m proud of my dad. He was as Western and bipartisan and commonsense as a man could get.

Here’s Udall’s communications director:

If they think that was an attack ad, just wait until Gardner starts showing photos of Udall with Obama. All hell will break loose.
