Number of people saying ‘do not panic’ about Ebola might be about to drop now that it’s in NYC

A doctor who had been working with Doctors Without Borders in Africa has been diagnosed with Ebola in New York City:

A doctor in New York City who recently returned from treating Ebola patients in Guinea tested positive for the Ebola virus Thursday, becoming the city’s first diagnosed case.

The doctor, Craig Spencer, was rushed to Bellevue Hospital Center on Thursday and placed in isolation while health care workers spread out across the city to trace anyone he might have come into contact with in recent days. A further test will be conducted by the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to confirm the initial test.

While officials have said they expected isolated cases of the disease to arrive in New York eventually, and had been preparing for this moment for months, the first case highlighted the challenges surrounding containment of the virus, especially in a crowded metropolis.

The concern is that just before diagnosis, the doctor had been on the subway, to a bowling alley (which is now closed), and possibly to a restaurant.

Don’t worry though, because the U.S. now has an Ebola Czar who is an expert in implementation and management, just in case Ebola needs to be shown just who’s boss when it comes to corralling a bunch of bureaucrats into a room to strategize about things they know very little about. But rumor has it Ronald Klain did once roll a 137 at Harvard Lanes in rented shoes, so by this administration’s definition of “communicable disease expert,” he’s got the bowling angle handled.

The MSM’s approach is about to swing wildly:

Regardless of how Ebola arrived in NYC, the calls for flight bans from affected countries aren’t exactly about to decline either.

In closing, Ed Morrissey at Hot Air made a good point:

We should note that Dr. Spencer put his life on the line to help people in Guinea, a courageous effort that deserves recognition. It doesn’t change the fact that running around on public transportation within the incubation period to go bowling seems very irresponsible — and if a doctor can’t be disciplined enough to self-isolate, those with less understanding of the issues probably won’t be either.
