Hillary Clinton: Now that I’m speaking to a different audience, I can tell you that businesses DO create jobs

Just about everybody knows what Hillary Clinton said the other day, and everybody also knows that she meant it. She was speaking to a particular audience, Elizabeth Warren was in the house, and Clinton simply couldn’t afford to be outdone in the “you didn’t build that” department.

Was anything about this unclear?

With that targeted message having been delivered, Clinton then switched gears for a different audience and adapted quickly to new surroundings in the name of self-preservation while chameleons everywhere went “how does she do that?”

Three days after Hillary Clinton said businesses don’t create jobs, she cleaned up the remark, part of a critique of trickle-down economics, explaining she had “shorthanded this point the other day.”

On Monday at a campaign event for New York Rep. Sean Maloney, a former aide to President Bill Clinton, Clinton went for a do-over, saying, “Let me be absolutely clear about what I’ve been saying for a couple of decades [with the exception of the other day – DP]: Our economy grows when businesses and entrepreneurs create good-paying jobs here in an America where workers and families are empowered to build from the bottom up and the middle out — not when we hand out tax breaks for corporations that outsource jobs or stash their profits overseas.”

In fairness, Hillary didn’t realize her claim that businesses and corporations don’t create jobs was wrong the other day until she was walking off stage, stopped, slapped herself in the forehead and said, “Whitewater! Duh!”
