Welcome to another episode of “Behind the Optics.”

The wind-up:

President Barack Obama on Wednesday will kick off a three-day, three-city national tour highlighting proposals he plans to make part of his State of the Union address later this month by visiting the Ford Michigan Assembly Plant in Wayne, where he is expected to tout the resurgence of the domestic auto industry.

The White House had announced the trip to Michigan on Saturday but only released the site of Wednesday’s visit today, saying the president will deliver remarks recognizing the growth in the American auto and manufacturing sectors and highlighting “the decision to save the auto industry and the over one million jobs that went with it.”

And the pitch:

The White House confirmed Monday that President Barack Obama will visit Ford Motor Co.’s Michigan Assembly plant on Wednesday — a factory that is closed this week because of lagging demand for its small gasoline and hybrid cars.

Bonus points: Obama’s going to tout the “success” of the auto bailout at a factory owned by a company that didn’t take a bailout.
