Shocker: White House still unsure of motive behind Charlie Hebdo attack in Paris

One of the terrorists involved in the killing of 12 people at the office of Charlie Hebdo in Paris has turned himself in, and two suspects are said to be still at large.

According to the BBC, “witnesses said they heard the gunmen shouting ‘We have avenged the Prophet Muhammad’ and ‘God is Great’ in Arabic (‘Allahu Akbar’).” Given those reports, and the fact that the magazine’s office has been previously attacked over its Islam-based jokes, the Obama White House… still isn’t sure of the motive for the attack:

Earlier today, White House spokesman Josh Earnest said the U.S. would be working with its French counterparts to determine exactly who was behind the shooting, and what the motivation was.

Earnest would not use the word “terrorism” to describe the attack, but when asked by CNN about Hollande’s use of that term, Earnest replied, “Based on what we know right now it does seem like that’s what we’re confronting here.”

Come again?

They simply will not say it.

It’s worth noting that in 2012 the White House condemned the Charlie Hebdo cartoons, but at least now they’re acting like tireless defenders of freedom of expression. Better late than never.

For the dumbest take of the day, we go to MSNBC (where else?). Brace for stupid: Horrors akin to the Charlie Hebdo massacre are found with different religions too. Example? Like the time Jerry Falwell went after Larry Flynt:

Because defamation lawsuits are just like murdering a dozen people!

It wasn’t the dumbest thing ever uttered on MSNBC, but it was tied for first with about 5,000 others.
