Why didn’t Obama, Biden or Kerry attend the march in Paris? Humility, or something

There was a “solidarity march” in Paris, France on Sunday, and a vast array of world leaders were on hand, as Michelle pointed out:

The only American representative at the march was the U.S. ambassador to France. The Obama administration sent Eric Holder, who supposedly attended “meetings” but didn’t go to the march.

Amazingly, John Kerry was unable to fit it into his schedule — and this is France we’re talking about. Every hat shop in the Paris area carries a beret in JK Francois’s size in case he drops in because they know he’s such a huge fan of the country (unconfirmed rumor: Say “Heinz ketchup” to the box office clerk at the Opéra de la Bastille and you’ll get a 20 percent discount on tickets). But this time, Kerry just couldn’t make it over the weekend.

Why didn’t higher level Obama administration officials attend? They were suddenly paralyzed by “Sudden Selective Humility Syndrome”:

As has been the case in past events that Mr. Obama has declined to attend, such as in Ferguson, Mo. amid outcry over the shooting of an unarmed young black man, the administration official noted the presence of the president or vice president can be distracting, given their security requirements. That would have been the case in a city swamped with marchers just days after a terrorist attack.

“This event is not about us,” the official said.

Observant pessimists might read that as A) “We couldn’t make this enough about us”; B) “The theme of the march runs counter to our PC talking points”; Or, C) All of the above:

After the attack at Charlie Hebdo, France’s prime minister said that his country was at “war” with radical Islamists. Eric Holder demonstrated on Sunday that the administration’s just not willing to go there.

BUT, please, no jokes about Obama being too busy playing golf to attend — because that’s a lie!

Update:

John Kerry will visit France… on Thursday:

Josh Earnest said today it was a mistake not to send a higher ranking administration official to Paris over the weekend.
