Former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley is running for president, and in his first speech as a candidate, he said what Al Gore only thinks but doesn’t say out loud:

O’MALLEY: And if together we take these actions, the American dream will live again. Climate change is real, and it also happens to be the greatest business opportunity to come to our country for 100 years. So we must create an American jobs agenda for America’s renewable energy future.

And by “business opportunity” he means “fear-based chance to milk taxpayers and future generations for all it’s worth.” The line wasn’t in O’Malley’s prepared remarks — no doubt a direct effect of climate change.

Can an economy based on climate change fugazzi flourish? It’s confusing, because how does a nation hitch part of its economy to something that is also its biggest national security threat? That’s a conundrum “President O’Malley” is reportedly trying to work through at a practice cabinet meeting he’s having today with three staffers and his kitchen cabinets. They’ll also try to figure out how to offset the carbon footprint from burning businesses and cop cars that’s emitting from cities that have been run by Democrats for decades.
