Obama admin’s “world peace through cheap plastic novelty gifts” initiative falls flat

Nearly three years ago, President Obama mocked Mitt Romney’s assertion that Russia remained the United States’ number one geopolitical threat by reminding him “the Cold War is over” and that the “1980s called and asked for its foreign policy back.”

Obama actually believes that the person who falls asleep at night on Nikita Khrushchev limited edition bed sheets from Lenins ‘n Things does so only because they’re comfortable. But today, Obama had to remind Putin to stop acting out Romney’s false assertions:

President Barack Obama says Russian President Vladimir Putin must decide whether he wants to wreck Russia’s economy in pursuit of what Obama calls a “wrongheaded desire to recreate the glories of the Soviet empire.”

Obama says U.S. and European leaders are in agreement about maintaining sanctions on Russia until it abides by its side of a cease-fire. But he says political leaders aren’t yet discussing additional sanctions to ramp up pressure on Putin.

That information will also be transmitted to Vladimir.

Wouldn’t a more accurate and effective way to phrase that be “wrongheaded desire to recreate the horrors of the Soviet empire”? I guess perspective is everything.

In any case, it’s OK to point and laugh sometimes:

Maybe this is much ado about nothing. Because after all…

Obama is expected to neutralize that with a return verbal salvo of “and if you like your plan you can keep your plan!”
