The EPA’s quest to help Obama do battle against America’s #1 national security threat — climate change — continues. Recently the EPA announced they’d be putting new regs on airplane emissions (no, not yours President Obama).
Next up for strangulation by regulation: Trucking companies:
The Obama administration laid out a major step Friday in its fight against climate change with a plan it said would reduce the greenhouse gas emissions from medium and heavy-duty trucks and buses by 1 billion metric tons.
The matching regulations from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Transportation Department would improve fuel efficiency standards by an average of 24 percent for medium-sized and heavy trucks, buses and big trailers through model year 2027, which would cut the output of Earth-warming carbon dioxide while saving 1.8 billion barrels of oil.
The federal agencies said the rules, which would be the second round of truck efficiency standards from the Obama administration, would bolster energy security and spur innovation in manufacturing while saving money for consumers and businesses.
Check out this dishonest bureaucratic crackpottery:
“These efficiency standards are good for the environment — and the economy,” Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx said in a statement. “When trucks use less fuel, shipping costs go down.”
Excuse me for a second…
Sorry, where was I? Oh yes — that claim is now tied for first with 10,000 other quotes from administration officials for the dumbest economic claim ever made. Foxx sure skipped some broad strokes to make that point, didn’t he? I had no idea you could just snap your fingers and your vehicle would get better gas mileage without having to do anything else. Why didn’t they tell us this sooner?
The EPA has for quite a while been pushing the “our regulations create jobs” angle, and they do, but only for EPA bureaucrats and/or manufacturers of straight jackets. The “E” in EPA doesn’t stand for “economists.”
There’s really only one fitting rebuttal to the Transportation Secretary’s claim:
