What’s government-speak for ‘devastating computer hacking’? OPM lets us know

The hack of the computer system at the Office of Personnel Management gets worse by the day:

The U.S. agency burglarized by suspected Chinese hackers has completed its long-awaited damage assessment and more than 22 million people inside and outside government likely had their personal information stolen, officials announced today.

That number is more than five times larger than what the Office of Personnel Management announced a month ago when first acknowledging a major breach had occurred. At the time, OPM only disclosed that the personnel records of 4.2 million current and former federal employees had been compromised.

The Obama administration and other Democrats said every American had a right to health insurance but they should have started out by mandating that everybody get LifeLock.

The OPM breach is being called a “hack,” even though it’s a little like having your car stolen by somebody you’d previously given a set of keys.

Leave it to the OPM to come up with this terminology for the hack:

I prefer “shared sacrifice” or “involuntary social security number redistribution.”

This won’t surprise you either: The director of the OPM will not quit. There’s no way any federal director would willingly give up that cushy Lois Lerner-style retirement package. And she certainly isn’t being fired. How bad would you have to screw up to get Obama to fire you? I don’t want to find out.
