Shared prosperity: State Dept. ‘accidentally’ paid Huma Abedin too much to work for Hillary (a Sunday open thread)

Another fine summer day means it’s time for a Sunday open thread, brought to you in part today by Happyscrapper, Michelob Ultra and Bayer aspirin.

A few things to kick it off…

Hillary Clinton’s campaigning on a “shared prosperity” platform, and she sure does tend to lead by example (via Twitchy):

State Department investigators concluded this year that Huma Abedin, one of Hillary Rodham Clinton’s closest aides, was overpaid by nearly $10,000 because of violations of rules governing vacation and sick leave during her tenure as an official in the department.

The finding — which Abedin has formally contested — emerged publicly Friday after Sen. Charles E. Grassley (R-Iowa) sent letters to Secretary of State John F. Kerry and others seeking more information about an investigation into possible “criminal” conduct by Abedin concerning her pay.

The letters also sought the status of an inquiry into whether Abedin had violated conflict-of-interest laws related to her special employment situation, which allowed her to work simultaneously for the State Department, the Clinton Foundation and a private firm with close ties to the Clintons.

Has there ever been a “mistake” made that didn’t work in the favor of the Clintons or their pals?

Team Clinton can be accused of lots of things, but “failure to plan ahead” isn’t one of them:

Grassley also raised the possibility that efforts to investigate Abedin’s actions were thwarted because many of her exchanges were sent through Clinton’s private e-mail server.

It’s almost as if Hillary’s private server existed to hide shady dealings from scrutiny!

Example #4,532 of why this administration has complete disregard for the Constitution: John Kerry’s testimony before a House committee about why they’re not considering the Iran deal to be a treaty:

“Well Congressman, I spent quite a few years ago trying to get a lot of treaties through the United States Senate,” Kerry replied. “And frankly, it’s become physically impossible. That’s why.”

“Because you can’t pass a treaty anymore,” he continued. “And it’s become impossible to, you know, schedule, it’s become impossible to pass. And I sat there leading the charge on the Disabilities Treaty which fell to, basically, ideology and politics. So I think that’s the reason why.”

Following the Constitution has become “impossible” for Obama’s people. Nice of Kerry to admit what we already knew.

Get ready to be forced to heat your house by burning all your old insurance cancellation notices:

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency on Monday will set the nation’s first-ever limits on power-plant carbon emissions, mandating ambitious cuts that exceed the targets laid out in a proposal released last year.

The EPA will require a 32% reduction in the emissions by 2030 from 2005 levels—a move the Obama administration describes as a “historic action” to combat climate change but one critics are likely to argue is both costly and untenable. The final version of the climate policy gives states more time to comply with the regulations but also raises the bar with a steeper cut to emissions than the 30% target proposed in a draft rule last year, according to a senior administration official.

President Barack Obama will announce the regulations, the cornerstone of his environmental agenda, at a White House event Monday, where he will make the case that climate change is one of the most pressing challenges facing the country and that the U.S. must be a global leader on the issue.

No, he wasn’t joking in 2008:

Job well done, Eric Holder!

Hillary Clinton, the woman who in the past has said that businesses don’t create jobs, has promised to be “the small business president.” Even she couldn’t get through that pledge without laughing:

At least she can recognize a joke when she hears it.

They have hit bottom, and continue to dig:

Harvesting organs from unborn babies and selling them. Do it… FOR THE CHILDREN!

Last but certainly least, it’s the age-old question: If three MSNBC shows that nobody watch get canceled, does anybody care?
