Obama says GOP ‘down on America’ — Pastor of 20 years unavailable for comment (a Sunday open thread)

Another Sunday is upon us, so how about an open thread for whatever you want to talk about?

Here are a few things to kick it off:

President Obama is working his way down the west coast this weekend one putt at a time, and at a fundraiser he completely checked his self-awareness at the door:

The president argued his administration has made progress on key issues, citing job creation, less dependence on foreign oil and the end of policies such as “Don’t ask, don’t tell,” which had barred openly gay soldiers from serving in the military.

“Which makes you wonder, why are all these Republican politicians so down on America?” Obama said, drawing laughs. “I mean, I know it’s political season, but listening to them is kind of depressing.”

That’s right — the old acquaintance of Bill Ayers whose pastor of 20 years was famously recorded saying “God damn America” who later became a presidential candidate campaigning on a promise to fundamentally transform this unfair and unjust country while making his wife proud of the country for the first time in her adult life thinks the GOP has been running down the country.

In the same speech, Obama said this:

Obama mocked Republicans for denial of climate change, saying if 99 percent of doctors told you you had diabetes, “You wouldn’t call it a hoax.”

Well, if 99 percent of that 99 percent of doctors received huge government grants to conclude that diabetes cases are on the rise, yeah, I might question that.

Debbie Wasserman Schultz said this morning that if a Republican is elected president, he or she will deport women, or something:

The Republicans are trying to out-right wing each other. Look, between the fifteen Republican candidates who are left — all of whom are trying to out-Trump Donald Trump — by saying, “Yeah let’s kick women. Let’s kick them and immigrants out of this country. Let’s take away health care from women.”

Getting a little desperate, Debbie? Take your Thorazine.

Hillary Clinton said she knows her beliefs are correct because she “believes in evidence” (make your own scrubbed email server or blue dress joke here).

Last but least, your Sunday heaping helping of saltpeter:

Excuse me for a second:

The good news for Reid is that his doctors have told him he has NOT lost the ability to screw taxpayers — so he’s got that going for him.

Have a good Sunday all!
